Without a doubt, sleep is essential in maintaining a balance in the undertakings that make life what it is. There are major implications of sleep deprivation, all of which negatively affect the normal functioning of an individual. A largely sleep-deprived society, hence, is significantly negatively affected. Less sleep influences the immune system. It prevents the production of cytokines that actively fight infections. A sleep deprived society is hence susceptible to numerous illnesses, which in turn reduce their productivity. It also influences the onset of respiratory illness and other comorbid diseases. Closely related to this, it could cause weight loss. Hormone production is also largely negatively affected by a lack of enough sleep (Cross, 2018). This means that the normal development of the body, an aspect that is affected by growth hormones is also negatively impacted. When the body is dysfunctional, one could cause major accidents due to being passive, fatigued or generally drowsy.

On a personal level, lack of enough sleep makes me drowsy, it affects my concentration, affects the accuracy and preciseness that I employ in doing various activities as well as affect my interaction with others. In most circumstances, hence, without enough sleep, I am less efficient and less productive.

Without enough sleep, I often feel anxious because of my inability to deliver not only at school but most importantly at the workplace. In the cases that I am unable to contain such anxiety, I am likely to be depressed and become susceptible to other illnesses such as common colds. At the workplace, there is likely to be an increase in occupational injuries (Breus & Meyers, 2006). Due to poor performance, in most cases, I feel sad, unmotivated and less accomplished.
