As a sound minded and wise American citizen, I fully concur with the sentiments presented by the Kerner Commission Report. The reasons why my thoughts are inclined to the notion that America is moving towards two societies (black and white) are fueled by the ever-growing racial-related cases in contemporary times. Any American citizen, who is up to date with the news and happenings in the country, will tell you that as a country we are still miles away from eliminating racial discrimination in our societies and mentalities ( Du Bois & Marable, 2015) . It is a sad and shameful reality to imagine that the world most democratic nation still deals with issues of racism and discrimination.

The Kerner Report, that was presented decades ago, helped in illustrating that America’s social norms are heavily dictated by skin color. White individuals do not share an equal platform with their African-American counterparts ( Bonnett, 2018) . In fact, the phenomenon is widely depicted in numerous scenarios all over the country. For example, young black males are automatically viewed as suspected criminals or drug peddlers all around the country. The misguided ideology has led to the wrongful victimization of young males from the African-American community. According to Yancy (2016), most of them are serving unfair sentences in correctional facilities while the rogue and racist police officers have murdered others. The existence of Hashtags such as the “Black lives matter” goes a long way in highlighting the magnitude of truth presented by the facts in the Kerner Commission Report.

The reality of the matter is that fifty years after the Kerner Commission Report stated that America is moving towards a two-society country, little to nothing has been done to change this. The strategies that have been implemented so far have proven to be widely ineffective in eliminating racism in the USA ( Opotow, 2016) . Therefore, based on the current state of affairs, I believe that the sentiments by the commission were accurate and America is divided into two societies, the majority Whites against minor and marginalized races that mainly constitute of African-Americans.
