There has been a lot of advance marine conservation research and management policy but human activities still continue to affect marine life including habitats, ecosystems and people who rely on marine for necessary resources. This therefore raises concerns in the effectiveness of marine conservation. There have been a lot of questions about what factors are preventing effectiveness in conserving marine habitats and species. In order to get answers to these questions, gaps in marine conservation have to be identified and then develop a strategy to deal with the problem. The kraken in the aquarium covers the questions that need to be addressed in order to advance marine conservation.
In order to come up with a solution, the authors conducted a two day workshop which helped them identify the 71 most important questions that needed to be addressed in order to sole the issue of marine conservation. This angle is reasonable because for one to come up with a solution, the most important thing is to identify the major causes of the problem. There is no way a conclusion can be made without knowledge of the causes of deficiency in any situation.

If I were the principle investigator in this research I would have taken the same angle built I would have thought about the controversial questions that were likely to come up. These are issues that are important but people are reluctant to raise them maybe because of fear of implicating themselves. Such questions include the question of human nature. For instance, it is well known that it might take several decades to evaluate marine systems and to convince coastal residents that marine conservation is not an issue of national security but it is also in their personal interest thus they should take the greatest part in the practice. Convincing them to change their behavior in order to conserve marine life may take a long time. This question was therefore not in the research because it was a difficult question, however, I know that it is one of the main causes of inefficiency in marine conservation thus I would have taken the risks involved to address it.
The most interesting part of the paper was the issue of corporate driven policy. This paper put it out clearly that corporations pose one of the greatest challenges in conserving, marine life. Corporations like well funded Christian institutions and industry representative groups posses a lot of finances and a lot of expertise that can be used to influence public opinion, fund politicians and also fund some research industries. In the US, many corporations have funded new companies to start from scratch in order to mislead the public and their actions are out rightly deliberate. The most interesting part is that corporations do this because they have a lot of resources at their disposal thus they assume the power that comes with it. On the other hand, conservatives have fewer resources than corporations thus they need to be more strategic about their outreach efforts. This is because messages delivered by activists in corporations undermine the message conveyed by conservatives. In order to succeed in marine conservation, conservatives should borrow some marketing tips from corporations in order to make sure they strike a code with public sentiments.
Fortunately, some environments like pristine environments are very attractive and some species like the dolphins and the polar bears have helped them draw the public concerns towards marine conservation. In addition, marine scientists have come up with a borrowed strategy from corporations and it is now utilizing social media to influence the public in matters concerning marine conservation.
Use of corporation’s marketing strategy can support global marine conservation in that it influences human behavior. It involves ethical application of marketing strategies techniques and human behavior with an objective of preserving the marine life. In addition, these marketing strategies help researchers get the right information regarding marine conservation. This will be very beneficial to them and the world at large because when they acquire the exact and right information, they will make the right decisions because they will get an insight on how to go about the matter.
In order to make sure that people have information about marine conservation, scientist can use different methods. One is science communication. It acts as a source of information in that people process information all the time including scientific data thus they are likely to act on it because they trust the source. Secondly, they can use adaptive management to establish successful baseline data for conservation.
The angle taken by the scientists to figure out problems facing marine conservation was good but there were some problems with their approach. This is because they did not look at the bigger picture in their workshop survey. In order to overcome the marine conservation problem, it is important to look at the bigger questions of kraken of aquarium. Secondly, they must think critically and find creative ways of tackling the questions. For instance, those questions that have higher financial stake like renovation of marine conservancies were omitted. The researchers were afraid to look at the most important questions like finances and the contribution of human activities and way of life to marine destruction. In addition, their angle did not create basis for dialog and transparency and they did not tackle the problem from multiple angles. In order to completely support marine conservations, researchers must do their research and then sit and critically analyze it to come up with possible solutions. Their angle however just outlined the questions and there was not much discussion of the issues at hand.
I can definitely transfer the knowledge I acquired from the paper to my career path and other fields of study because conservation is a broader term. It does not only revolve around marine life. For instance, environmentalists can take one or two things from the article. Some of the important things they can take include things that prevent environmental conservation like human nature. Human beings are the major causes of any form of pollution including marine, air pollution, deforestation and other forms of pollution. The paper has outlined what can be done in order to change the way human beings behave for the sake of environmental conservation.
In addition, this knowledge will help me to be a better person because I have a better understanding of conservation. It is the responsibility of every human being to conserve their environment in order to save marine life. In addition, conservation is in the best interests of human beings thus they should maintain cleanliness in all areas and fields of life.
The conclusions in this paper may inform policy in today’s political environment in that it outlines the changes that have already occurred in marine conservations and it also outlines changes that are about to happen. An example is the MSA and MPA’s. These two are pointing the US in a new direction as far as marine conservation is concerned. I would therefore recommend this paper to my family and friends because it has proven to be very educative in matters relating to marine conservation and it would be equally helpful to them too.
