There is a shortage in the Canadian workforce. Many business enterprises are looking in the direction of having drones to fill the gap. Many construction companies are depending on drones to create maps for the site. Many companies in Canada have a tough time finding workers as the baby boomers are retiring, and the upcoming generation are not venturing into the sector. Drones have been an alternative solution to many companies as it has saved on their cost and is more efficient (Burke, 2020). Making the work efficiency is one of the ways of improving the output level. Drones are crucial in maintaining the inventory of the company and even in conducting supervision. The role that drones play in the construction industry is massive as it can travel to a place where humans would not in a limited number of hours. Despite the high uptake of drones by many companies, some still believe that it is not a solution to the country's labor gap.

Connection with Textbook

The labor shortage is a situation where employers presume that there are insufficient candidates qualified to meet the demand for jobs in the market. The labor shortage in Canada is an economic crisis as every company and sector of the economy is complaining of employees' unavailability to pick up the various posts. An example is the Canadian military pilot shortage. The Royal Canadian Military Air Force (RCAF) has experienced a 75% shortage of its pilots in the last year (Dessler and Chhinzer, 2019). There has been a shortage of two-hundred and three pilots in the military. The situation is similar to the construction industry shortage, as there is no qualified workforce to meet the standard requirements. The possible reason for the shortage is high entry levels that cut-out many applicants. The standards and qualifications of the positions are two high to satisfy.

In the book, there are two solutions to the labor shortage. The solutions are both internal and external. The internal solutions include promotion and transfer. The employee is taken to another organization to fill a vacant position or is uplifted to a higher rank. The strategy helps motivate the employees to gain more skills that will earn the extra income from promotion and meet the standard requirements. The external solutions involve the outsourcing of the workers from a third organization. Outsourcing is a strategy of getting the workforce from another place to meet the company requirements (Dessler and Chhinzer, 2019). The two solutions can solve the article's problem as there will be enough skills to meet the demand, and outsourcing will be a new skill to improve efficiency. One limitation of promotion is competition, and workers may not be effective. Outsourcing will interfere with the organizational culture and may slow down the operations (Cicek and Ozer, 2011). A reduction in operation means a reduced outcome and level of performance.

From the article, a better solution is to have a drone that will improve operations efficiency. Drones will save on time and will require less supervision, thus saving on cost. Technology is important to the future human resource environment as it will make the operation easy to handle. With technology, it is possible to oversee a wide range of activities within a short period. During the Covid-19, technology has helped human resources analyze employees' performance and maximize profits in their homes' comfort.

Technology can solve the military shortage problem by a greater deal. For instance, there can be pilotless planes, which will be one of the ways of feeling the labor gap. Also, there will be an increase in efficiency and effectiveness in the military's level of operations. Using technology will be cost-effective and will be a future solution to the loss of lives. If an accident happens, there will be no pilot who loses their life.

Technology is good, but some people argue it is a barrier to employment opportunities to many. However, there is a need to focus more on the positive side. People might have lost their jobs, but the standards of living and operations will increase. For instance, before the invention of telephones, communication was a problem for many. Some were working on telephone booths that lost their jobs. But, communication with another person is very easy, and many people are employed in the communication industry.
