Introduction

Music is an art that describes the general emotions through vocal frequencies with its title depicting the real meaning and message being conveyed. Apparently, music is one of the universal ways of expressing human sentiments. Every music has four main things including pitch (high or low notes), rhythm (length of time between each beat), dynamic (how loud or quiet the music is), and timbre (quality of sound in music). In addition, there are different genres of music for all ages and people from all cultures around the world. There are various processes through which music impacts someone’s life. This can be either emotionally, socially or educationally ( Rentfrow, 2012) . Arguably, life without music is boring. It brings people together and even acts as a starter for a conversation between two strangers. One of the first questions two people who have met for the first time ask each other is "What kind of music are you into?" In my life, music has had a great impact on who I am, the way I live my life, and how I confront my problems. Music governs my life every day.

Impact of Music during Early Years

In my early life, I never had many activities to keep me occupied. I just lived without too much thinking. The song that shaped my early life in childhood was a song sang by Styx Band called “Too Much Time on My Hands.” The song talks about a man sitting in a bar imagining about the large amount of time he still has to accomplish his tasks in life. He wants to have all the good things in life without struggling for them. He believes he can solve all the problems on earth without even trying. He believes he has a lot of time to accomplish everything in the world but when time starts ticking away, he starts to wonder why he has not accomplished anything. The song was a perfect reflection of my childhood because my life was characterized by boredom and laziness ( Rentfrow, 2012) . I never liked being involved in anything or thinking about the things I could do because I believed that I had a lot of time ahead of me to accomplish all those things. Little did I know that time does not wait for anyone and it was vital that I make good use of it.

Impact of Music during High School

As opposed to my childhood life, my high school life was characterized by various activities and it was a confusing transition. It was amazing because I made new friends who turned out to be the best friends ever. It was also stressful because I was exploring my interests to guide me in what I would major in when I go to college. The song that shaped my high school life was “This is the Time” by Billy Joel ( Rentfrow, 2012) . The song talks about a man beseeching his lover to embrace the good moments they are having. The song describes how their current situation is good compared to the past when they were not together. It also talks about why they should enjoy what they currently have because the future is uncertain. The song reflects my high school experience in many ways ( Rentfrow, 2012) . My life became more vibrant in high school when I met new friends that we had a lot of fun together. It was a drastic transition from the boring childhood life. However, I knew that the high school moment was going to be short and my future life as a college student was still uncertain. I had not decided what I was planning to venture into while in college.

Impact of Music during College Life

Even though it has its ups and downs, I feel like am still enjoying this college moment much like I did while in high school. The song that reflects my college life is a song sung by two American artistes G-Eazy and Kehlani entitled “Good Life”. The song was taken from the soundtrack of the 2017 action film “The Fate of the Furious”. The song talks about the good life that the characters of the movie are having after putting their hardships in the past. It talks about the struggles they faced and the time and energy they have invested in order to make it in life. Apart from that, it depicts how their families are going to be successful, and why they no longer care about those who want to drag them down. Similarly, my college life was full of fun because I pursued the course of my dreams and am a step away from becoming a useful person to my family ( Rentfrow, 2012) . Just like it is pointed in the music lyrics, my life relates to the struggles pointed out in the music and how I have managed to work on them. It is more of a motivational song to me as I get encouragement from the lyrics. Also, the fact that I have been able to put my struggles in the past, I feel happy about my current life. In a nutshell, music has played a huge role in my life. Apart from the soothing feeling, it has educational aspects that have helped in the shaping of my life. Based on the above life events, it is obvious that music is an essential aspect of life.
