In Sittser’s book, "The Will of God as a Way of Life", there is the discussion about paradox. A paradox is a statement that looks unreasonable but if well explored, it could have some sense in it. This study looks into discussing some paradoxes one would come across when giving career counseling. It also looks into the challenges and benefits of living with paradox.
When giving counseling on career, the counselor would experience a paradox when the client really wants to be heard and understood but at the same time hiding some facts since he or she does not want to be known completely. Another example of a paradox is in situations where clients talk about their desire for administrative work instead of having their own jobs. The aspect of bearing with unfulfilling situations other than working in their own businesses to promote individual commitment and personal satisfaction. Thirdly, there is the paradox of traditional through versus modern thoughts of getting a job. Traditionally, it is thought that one would get a job immediately after learning a certain career while in the modern aspect, people have to tarmac for some time before they get a job or rather get to practice their career.

Challenges of living with paradoxes are that people get emotions out of perceptions that are not complete or beliefs. Such as believing that one should be frustrated once a computer breaks down. The second challenge of living with paradox is having to avoid some good practices due to frustrations that come with it. For example, a child telling a lie to avoid punishment since most parents ask for the truth yet go ahead and punish the child.
A benefit of living with paradox is that it helps in solving problems. When one is faced with a challenge, he or she would like to do away with the cause yet it is paradoxical that looking into that cause would be the source of a solution. Another benefit is that when a paradox is embraced, then the world will be understood better. The world is very complex and for people to gain its sense, there have to be interpretations made. These interpretations can be made through paradox.
A paradox is a very important tool in life. It has both benefits and challenges but if interpreted well, then the challenges with override the benefits.
