The two films are written in different styles and are of different genres, therefore, they help analyze the form of art that they use. These art pieces help me illustrate my responses because of their excellent subject matter. The Phantom of Opera, for instance, is a pseudo medieval fiction with a prevailing atmosphere of mystery and terror (Sporre,2015) ). What attracted me to these art pieces are the reviews that I have received from friends and the fact that these two pieces are popular . The Phantom of the Opera is gothic fiction, while The Hunger Games is an adventure and science fiction film.
I learned from The Phantom of the Opera that love between two people cannot be forced and that everyone needs love. The Phantom illustrated these two concepts. Although he was fierce and one-sided, he had affecting and possessive love for Christine (The Phantom of Opera,2004). I understood that writers could use mythical and traditional subject matter to pass a particular message to the reader in terms of art. The Phantom of the Opera met my expectation since I expected a lot of horrors and gothic fiction. Apart from that, the art piece also had a mystery that kept you engaged throughout. I can relate to this theatre piece of art since, in life, there are instances that love saved me. Although it might not have been romantic love, I realized love could save one from bad decisions. I can also relate to this art piece since I have judged people for their appearance severally, just as Erik the Phantom was judged. After watching the opera, I realized that there is a difference between appearance and reality.

Also, I learned a lot from The Hunger Games , especially in terms of life lessons. The film is about understanding the world in black and white (Sroja,2012) . I also learned that people are more potent than they realize. Life will always pose some challenges, although not in the form of mutts. As Katniss constantly reminded me in the film, people have particular strength that only difficult times can unveil (Sroja,2012). Another major lesson is the unpredictability of the world. In The Hunger Games , it was tough to tell who was on whose side and who was not, and such scenarios often happen in real life. Personally, The Hunger Games went beyond my expectations. Some of the scenes brought me to tears, and the suspense pushed me to the edge, especially during the intense games. I related to this film because it is about trust, sacrifice, and survival. I have had to make sacrifices and trust that everything will work out in life, which I refer to as survival. I can relate to this film personally since my life has been all about survival. What motivates me daily is that I have survives more challenging times before and trust that the next day will be better than yesterday.
The style composition aspect that engaged me to The Phantom of the Opera is that it is told from the viewpoint of the narrator, whose name is interestingly never given. The narration makes the piece seem like it actually happened since it is being narrated by someone else. More interestingly, the narrator examines the novel's events thirty years after they happened, which gives the novel authenticity ( The Phantom of Opera,2004). Contrary to The Phantom of Opera, The Hunger Games, the movie is based on a person’s own story, and it is like the narrator is acting out his history and experiences. Interestingly, although the main character is objective, she imagines what other characters must be feeling. Additionally, the camera view that is the shots and objectivity of the film are excellent.
By watching The Phantom of Opera, I learned the importance of aural elements in a theatrical production. I understood that what we hear contributes to how we know the production and determined if we enjoy it (Sporre, 2015). I understood that how a production sounds, reads, feels or looks represents all the artists involved. From the Hunger Games, I learned that many of the previous novels, such as The Hunger Games, are being converted into cinema form because, in this century, the mass-entertainment industry is more common. Unfortunately, there was nothing different from the music I typically listen to currently.
The Phantom of Opera was exciting and mysterious. I could not wait for what would happen next. I must admit that it was easy to understand but quite unpredictable. On the other hand, The Hunger Games was engaging, easy to understand, but predictable, and I could predict the plot before it began. I felt that it aimed to satisfy the audience's expectations. Both art pieces related to a real-world sense indirectly.
By analyzing these art pieces, I have changed my perspective on theatrical arts and cinema production processes. I now understand that cinema involves three-dimensional space compressed into two-dimensional images while theatre involves more performance art ( Sporre, 2015 ). I am now more enlightened that literature is not just about novels and short stories.
The lesson I would share with my peers is that literature is broad. It is not just about novels and poems but also cinemas, performance art, and theatre. Also, I would let them know that art begins from production, not just the actors and the action. Finally, music has an important part to play in production.
