Question One

The Phony King of England is a song that appeared third in the 1973 Robin Hood animation by Disney. It was sung by Phil Harris who played the role of the Little John. It was written by Johnny Mercer. The song was sung by Little John as a sign of admiration and honor to the engagement of Robin Hood and Maid Marian. The engagement happened as a private ceremony. Robin Hood friends were present and danced to the form of the musical composition ( Grant, 1998)

Question Two

There was the use of guitar with accurate articulation of chord patterns. This allows a smooth intersession between the keys . The song was penned down through a traditional melody ; the organization of the pitches sequence favored the traditional mode. The harmony created through the piano created a repeatable rhythm that is catchy and memorable. The texture was emphasized by the ukulele which made it polyphonic with the combination of different melodies and harmony (Koenig, 2001).

Question Three

The song based its theme in the disapproval that the people had towards Prince John’s taxation while it praised Robin Hood for standing up for justice. The synchronization of the range in the pitches signified the apparent hatred the people had towards Prince John’s taxation as well as Robin Hood heroic actions. The music signified the faith the people had in Robin Hood as it clearly expressed their belief in Robin Hood as a channel towards their financial freedom. The rhythm of his vocals were so catchy to an extent that Sir Hiss and the Sheriff of Nottingham start humming it. This humming makes Prince John furious resulting to an increase in the tax rate that the villages were to be charged. In addition, a jail sentence was given to anyone who could not afford to pay ( Grant, 1998)
