In reaction to Nick Hanauer’s article on “The Pitchforks Are Coming for Us Plutocrats”, I acknowledge that I was impressed by the historic orientations he used and the highlights on the rampant increasing wealth gap, which can cause risky straining on our society. I admit that the article was worth a read because it offers readers with insightful ideas that can be addressed to help fix the existing inequalities in the economy. I concur with Hanauer’s message that more money can be acquired in the right manner as opposed to the wrong way. In addition, making money in the right way will help to prevent cases of violent revolution.

However, I disagree with Hanauer’s message that the middle class will disappear if there is no rapid change in the existing policies taking the society back (Hanauer, 2014). The middle class form a very important part in the economy of a society. In most cases, they are the primary source of growth of the economy. For instance, a strong middle class is a crucial factor in promoting the societal and national conditions such as a stable consumer platform and productive investment that foster economic growth. If the middle class population cannot afford to purchase the services and goods sold by the businesses, it pulls down the economy entirely from top to bottom. This means that although the rich people own the businesses, the middle class are the ones who mostly purchase the services and goods. They enhance the demand for the local services and goods, and assist to facilitate the consumption growth. Parents from middle class have assets that they save and invest in the education of their children thereby creating a human capital for the whole country. Approximately half of the United States population is middle class meaning they are major drivers of the country’s economy. Therefore, even though rich people contribute to the growth of the economy, the middle class appear to be the main contributors to the same growth.
