Affirmative actions include all initiatives taken by the government to provide opportunities for employment as well as education to minority groups who were are perceived to have previously been discriminated against. Affirmative actions have been successful in most parts of the world in bringing equality in employment and education, promoting diversity and addressing previous wrongs mated on such minority groups. The classification of minority groups has been based on factors such as gender, ethnicity, and race among others. The question of whether affirmative action should be extended to law enforcement organizations has been controversial given the nature of operations of the officers and their specific requirements. I believe that affirmative action is important and justified to be used in law enforcement organizations.

Affirmative actions have been instrumental in helping law enforcement agencies in correcting past injustices to minority groups particularly in respect to employment opportunities. As an employer, the agencies have the moral and ethical obligations to provide equal opportunities for employment to all people regardless of their race, genders or ethnicity. However, they have not lived up to those ethical and moral expectations. Majority of the minority groups who equally qualify for the Jobs have been discriminated against in the past through the recruitment process. For example, the number of men employed in the law enforcement agencies has outweighed the number of women who gain access to such employment. Few minority groups such as African Americans were employed in agencies such as FBI, DEA, and US Marshal Service in the past. Therefore, affirmative action within law enforcement agencies is justified as it gives an opportunity for such agencies to correct past wrongs against minority groups through the employment process.

Secondly, affirmative action provides law enforcement agencies with an opportunity to comply with the principles of equity. Since the declaration of independence, the United States has undergone a tremendous evolution in embracing the principles of equity. The constitution is based on the acknowledgment that all human beings were created equally. Many civil rights movements have come up to advocate for the rights of minority groups such as women, children, and other ethnic minority groups. This has created a society that largely embraces the principles of equality. With all other government agencies embracing the principles of equality, the agencies are not exceptional. The adoption of affirmative action among these agencies is justified on the groups that it gives the agencies an opportunity to equally embrace the principles of equity just like the rest of the society.

Thirdly, affirmative action is justified for law enforcement organizations because it enhances the relationship between the officers and the communities served. It is increasingly becoming the interest of law enforcers to build positive relationships with communities and members of the public. The collaboration between law enforcing agencies and communities have proven to be effective in dealing with crime and enforcing law and order among communities. Law crime levels are witnessed among communities that collaborate with law enforcing agencies and have positive relationships. As such, the agencies are thriving to build positive relationships with communities within which they work. Affirmative action in such organizations helps to foster positive relationships with community members in different ways. First, affirmative action helps the law enforcement agency to appear as an equal employer in the community. As such, community members have an equal opportunity to get employed. Secondly, it enables the law enforcing organizations to have e representation of all community members. Such representation equally fosters the relationship between such organizations and communities within which they operate. Therefore, affirmative action is justified by the fact that it creates a positive relationship between the law enforcing organizations and the communities.

Lastly, affirmative action is justified because it provides jobs to minority groups who would have otherwise remained unemployed. It is important to note that affirmative action is mainly targeted in increasing representation of minority groups to the law enforcement agencies regarding employment. Without affirmative action, many members of minority groups find it hard to get employment. For instance, the number of women employed before the era of affirmative action was very small compared to their male counterparts. This demonstrates that members of minority groups find it hard to gain employment. The effect of this is far devastating considering the vulnerability of such people to engage in criminal activities. Statistics indicate that the majority of the people engaged in criminal activities are from ethnic minority groups. Therefore, Affirmative action is important in helping law enforcement agencies to contribute to the creation of jobs for minority groups. This indirectly helps them in fulfilling their mandate of enforcing the law in a more friendly and humane manner.

Overall, the adoption of affirmative action in law enforcement agencies is justified for four main reasons. First, it provides an opportunity for the agencies to correct past injustices that relate to discrimination in the provision of employment, particularly against minority groups. Secondly, it enables organizations to comply with the principles of equity. Thirdly, affirmative action enables them to enhance their relationship with community members. Lastly, it creates employment for minority groups who would otherwise remain unemployed. For these reasons, affirmative action is justified in law enforcement.
