Assignment 1
Transform plate boundaries are areas of the earth that are susceptible to deformation due to exposure, which leads to being scrapped and bumped by plates neighboring it. The main types of rocks found in transform plate boundaries are Sedimentary and metamorphic ( Stein, 2012) . Transform plate boundaries result in formation of different features. For instance, it causes the formation of transform earthquakes. Such features are common at mid-ocean ridge; however, they do not produce tsunamis because it does not lead to vertical displacement. Transform earthquakes can lead to large amounts of damage when they occur on land. An example of a transform earthquake was the 2012 Sumatran quake ( Stein, 2012) . Continental transform boundaries are also formed as a result of transform plate boundaries. The formation of such features is associated with extension and compression forces across its boundaries leading to the creation of dynamics called transpression and transtension. An example of a continental transform boundary is San Andreas Fault.
Assignment #2
One of the things I did not know about relating to volcanoes, plate boundaries, and earthquakes is the importance of volcanic ash. The particles are extremely small, and they remain suspended for a long time in the atmosphere leading to the formation of a thin layer ( EBSDocumentary (EBS), 2019) . The layer helps in the reflection of sunlight into space, resulting in to decrease in air temperatures. The fact that layers formed by volcanic ash can remain suspended in the atmosphere, thus helping in the regulation of global climate, requires further understanding. Despite my earlier thought, it is a natural phenomenon with impeccable benefits rather than only destruction after the volcanic eruption. Despite that, one also learned that volcanic ash possesses a serious threat to aircraft. For instance, in 2018, the eruption of the volcano on Bali in Indonesia resulted in volcanic ash causing Bali airport and other airports within the area to be closed ( EBSDocumentary (EBS), 2019) .
