Emerging Global Risk

Geopolitical instability is an emerging global risk that affects multiple countries across the world. Geopolitical instability arises from the national politics of a country and felt through deep divisiveness and pushbacks leading to fractious international relations. Leaders within a country experiencing instability due to geopolitical practices should evaluate the harm and benefits associated with the specific activities. Furthermore, the government also has to assess the impact of their respective activities to other countries because this leads to the rows experienced among countries. Nations that experience geopolitical instability are characterized by demonstrations as citizens demonstrate their rebellion against government activities. Consequently, such activities disrupt the peace and stability of a region especially if the riots turns out to be violent. Furthermore, countries undergoing political transition experience geopolitical instability due to growing public participation on divergent issues. Accordingly, the ruling governments should consider using bureaucracies to ensure that a country remains stable. Natural resources, fragile political institutions, and poverty are other factors that can easily lead to geopolitical instability in a country (Hoque & Zaidi, 2020) . The current trends in geopolitical instability led to a shift on the perception created concerning international relations. In the past, there was a belief that wrangles in the international scene existed because countries tried to position themselves as more powerful. However, the belief is a misconception as recently proved given that activities characterizing national politics in a given country have the capability to disrupt international relations. Consequently, it becomes essential to determine the relationship between political patterns and social, economic, and environmental aspects in a country. Acquiring this understanding will be useful in enabling countries to take charge of their politics because of its impact on international peace. Furthermore, countries will understand the structure they should put in place aimed at protecting its operation from disruption by events taking place in other countries they share close relations.

Describe the effects of the risk on each country

The United States is experiencing geopolitical instability following the current power transition from Trump’s administration to Biden’s administration. Nevertheless, the country experiences uncertainties as it awaits the decisions of the Supreme Court on whether the presidential election featured some irregularities. The current scenario puts the United States in a place it has never been in the past as the country experience easy and efficient transitions. The most substantial impact of the geopolitical instability in the country is the delayed fight against Covid-19. The country has an overall feeling that the government has not adequately addressed the Covid-19 pandemic, which might partly due to the campaigns and other activities involved with the election.

The geopolitical instability experienced in Iraq follows an existence disagreement on ways to share the rich natural oil resources located at Kirkuk and Baiji. ISIS, which is a rebel group in the country threatens to take over the two natural resources citing unfair distribution of resources across the government. Consequently, the citizens of Iraq engage in ethnic conflicts as they fight for the natural resources available in the country (Tziarras, 2013) . The instability in the country influences its economic growth, international relations, and the quality of life for its people.

The geopolitical instability in Iran results from the government supporting terrorist activities across the world through provision of weapons and funds to terrorist groups such as ISIS. Accordingly, the country faces risk of attack from countries such as the United States that show their commitment in fight against terrorism. The instability cause uncertainties in the country, negatively influences its internal relations, and derails economic development.

India experiences geopolitical instability following the poverty experienced by its citizens as they seek to have access to electricity, water, pollution, unemployment, and the growing population. The current government has made an attempt to address majority of socioeconomic issues facing the country. However, the existing issues causes unrest among the citizens and can be the source of disrupting political stability in the country.

Finally, Indonesia is another country experiencing significant issues such as radicalization, pollution, and ecological damage. Consequently, the issues lead to unrests among the citizens as they demand for better economic activities. Therefore, the factors influence the capability of the country to engage in practices that deter effective international relations. The country political activities intensified as the citizens believe that the solution to their problems lies on their capability to elect leaders with capability to address their issues.

Role of ethical decision-making in addressing geopolitical risks

Decision-making will play an essential role for leaders in all the affected countries above as it will enable them to address the issues facing a country without necessarily causing significant negative effects. Decision-making involves making an informed choice by evaluating available information regarding a matter through data collection and identification of alternative solutions. Subsequently, the practice seems to be vital in addressing issues related to geopolitical risks among countries given that such factors threatens global peace. For instance, on the issue relating to instability experienced in Iran, the leadership of the country should use decision-making to resolve the existing wrangle. The leaders should analyze the importance of fighting against terrorism across the globe. The decision to support or desist from engaging in terrorism activities should have its foundation on factual grounds, which can only be possible through use of available information. Decision-making will restrict the government from engaging in practices that fails to consider the interests of a country for individual benefits. Alternatively, leaders in countries stricken by poverty like India and Indonesia should help in creation of strategies that can help in eradicating poverty and improving the livelihoods of people.

Analyze the impact of business ethics on stakeholder relationships

Businesses that have a strong ethical environment establishes better and stronger relationships with their stakeholders. Having better relationships between all the involved stakeholders are vital in creating a conducive business environment due to better availability of results. The relationship between a business and its various stakeholders is built on trust, fair dealing, and good faith. Ethical responsibilities are critical because they help in promoting protection of the interests between the organization and other stakeholders. The geopolitical instability in a country influences the manner in which an organization runs due to possible strained international relations. For instance, if the organizations relies on suppliers that reside in another country or a different political party, it is possible for such factors to influence the effectiveness of running a company (Schneider & Sachs, 2015) . In such circumstances, it is essential to note that an existence of a business ethics will protect the organization from suffering by decisions that does not directly influence it. Furthermore, it is essential to acknowledge that all stakeholders have an essential role in an organizations aimed at positively influencing operations. Moreover, the company will also be in a position to influence external relationships among people by ensuring that its social corporate responsibility will focus on solving the existing issues experienced by the members of a society.

Importance to create an ethics program, conduct training, and engage in compliance auditing

Creating an ethics program is critical for the organization because it enables the management to communicate about the business philosophy used to run operations to all stakeholders. Consequently, a well written ethics program should enable the management to strengthen its relationship with various stakeholders including employees, investors, customers, and suppliers. It is likely that all the stakeholders understand the business philosophy used in the organization based on the existing corporate culture. However, creating and instituting an ethics program ensures that all stakeholders, especially employees have access to similar information and this aspect helps to eliminate any likely confusion in running the business (McGurgan, 2013) . Moreover, ethics program helps to promote customer satisfaction in an institution as it compels employees to treat their clients fairly. Finally, an ethics program will enhance productivity in a country and this will play an essential role in enhancing engagements between the employer and the workforce and create satisfaction among all the involved parties.

On the other hand, training and compliance auditing are essential practices because they will help to ensure that an organization meets all the ethical standards set in the program. Training will enable employees to enhance their career growth through acquisition of both soft and technical skills. Soft skills will help in improving their engagements while the technical skills will enable them deliver to satisfaction. Notably, compliance auditing is an essential practice as it helps an organization determine whether it has met all the set guidelines established in running operations within an organization. Compliance auditing also enable the organization avoid legal implications as it determines whether a company meets all the laid down strategies involved in running operations in a given organization effectively.

Training plan for ethical considerations and social responsibility relating to geopolitical instability

The geopolitical instability derived from the issues in the countries such as the United States, Iraq, Iran, India, and Indonesia demonstrates the issues that global citizens that will deal with. Some of the challenges that have led to the uncertainties in this countries include political transitions, poverty, fight against terrorism, natural resources, and need to have infrastructural development. Consequently, it is essential to come up with a training program that will help address the existing ethical considerations and social responsibilities. The training program will target at enabling employees within the organization on how to deal with ethical issues that will arise from the practices. Accordingly, it becomes essential to identify the possible ethical issues might arise, which include global hazards, wars, subjecting people to poverty, and unequal distribution of resources in a given society. Based on these issues, the training program goals will be to create a stable global community where individuals can interact with each other peacefully. The objectives of the training program include a need to encourage leaders to engage in critical decision-making when addressing issues within the organization. Furthermore, the training program will target at equipping the employees with soft skills such that they will be able to address issues influencing other individuals compared to focusing on individual interests at the expense of others. Another objective will address the importance of equitable distribution of resources as a way of eliminating conflicts within the organization. Accordingly, addressing these issues at the organizational level will play a critical role in influencing the external world due to the interactions that the employees have.

The appropriate training method that will be useful in this program is an interactive classroom where the employees will engage in simulations project aimed at challenging them to learn through actual experiences. Consequently, the employees will learn new skills and apply them in completion of the simulation project increasing the chances for the employees to have these practices memorable. Consequently, it is likely that the employees will use similar solutions to address other problems experienced at the course of work. Nevertheless, the program is time-consuming and it will require a lot of dedication to complete as the employees will require expert intervention at some point.

Evaluating the effectiveness of the training program will require the trainer involved to use the Kaufman’s model that requires the employees to measure the resources invested towards the program like time and cost. Furthermore, the model requires the trainer to evaluate the reaction that an employees has towards the program in ensuring that its operations are effective. Consequently, the trainer will be identifying the interaction between the specific employer and the program. Individuals that demonstrate high level of engagement with the program perform better than those that restrain their involvement. Furthermore, the evaluation aims at determining whether the employee met the objectives outlined when beginning the learning program. Finally, the trainer must determine the profitability of the project deliverables for the current business. The training will be conducted in shifts such that not all employees will be undertaking the program at the same time. Subsequently, it will be possible to avoid constraining the employees into participating in an activity that will consume their energy since it will run during work hours and employees will have to resume to work. The trainer will evaluate compliance of the employees by comparing the deliverables of the project with the intended objectives and determine whether such conditions were met. Furthermore, the trainer will also assess whether the materials used when completing the project are relevant in promoting its intended purpose in the organization.
