The main points in the case study is that the United Nations through World Health Organization (WHO) has been actively involved in the worldwide quest for promotion of health. The WHO’s top priorities at its inception included diseases that are prone to attacking women and children, malaria, tuberculosis, nutrition, venereal disease, and pollution of the environment. However, there has been emergence of many diseases that has attracted WHO’s attention. These diseases include HIV/AIDS, cancer, diabetes, and the emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), Zika virus, and Ebola. Besides, WHO is the leading body for initiating the international response to the Corona virus pandemic. It is also noted that WHO took the responsibility to set international classification of diseases since 1048. The classification has become the international standards for reporting and defining health conditions and diseases.

WHO has contributed many achievements in history since its creation. For instance, WHO helped in the discovery of antibiotics and also helped in advising the various countries o their responsible use, decreasing the rate of polio cases by more than 99% through worldwide immunization, and eradication of small pox through its ambitious global vaccination that took 12 years for its accomplishment. Besides, it is also note that WHO also contributed towards helping people against the outbreak of Ebola virus in 2014. The WHO secretariat deployed thousands of experts and medical equipment as well as mobilizing a team of medical providers to help in the eradication of the Ebola pandemic. Besides, the secretariat also coordinated in the creation of mobile laboratories and treatment centers to help in eradication of the virus. In 2016, WHO successfully announced an effective eradication of the pandemic in the West Africa. However, it warned countries across the world to remain vigilant and prepared for any further outbreak. It is therefore important to observe April 7 th each year as the world health day since it is the day that WHO came into force to help improve health and wellbeing of individuals across the globe.

The main problem that is identical within the case study is based on the world health statistics in 2019. WHO’s annual state of the world health highlighted that even though some areas have made a remarkable progress towards the health sustainable development goals of 2030, the progress has stalled in other areas and even the progress of the SDG 2013 is in the wrong direction for some indicators. Considering the role that has been played by the WHO in some diseases as well as the fact that the millennium development goals for the world health focused on the narrow set of diseases and specific health targets in 2015. However, the SDG looked at the 2030 and focused on a broader scope. For instance, SDGs included a broader health objectives to ensure healthy lies among individuals and well-being for all people at all ages. However, the problem lies within the broader goals that were set for sustainable development that targets better health and well-being among all people across the globe.

The most important SDGs which are ensuring healthy lives, promotion of wellbeing, and push for the achievement of universal health coverage are not met for all people across the globe. For instance, the latest data available as presented in the case study shows that at least half of the world’s population do not receive the most essential health services as required. Approximately a hundred million people were forced into extreme poverty in 2010 since they had to pay for the health services from their own earnings. That tells that achievement of universal coverage which is an important sustainable development goal is not being achieved. Furthermore, these SDGs are the most important since there has been a higher risk of a 30 year old individual dying before they reach seventy years due to cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer. Besides, these diseases attack both men and women in living in the middle income countries. Therefore if they goals are set to be of higher priorities and considered important, then there would be an improvement of people’s health and wellbeing in all countries. It is important to consider the goals in terms of what is more important. For instance, it is important to look at the world’s children fatality at a tender age, death of young people before they reach their 70s and poverty which is a major problem that affects most people living in underdeveloped countries denying them the chance of assessing healthcare services since they do not benefit from the universal health coverage.

It is important to keep the goals as listed by the world health without changing or reorganizing the goals. For instance the idea of zero poverty is not an easily achievable goal even though poverty is among the social determinants of individual’s health. Ensuring a universal health coverage for all people is an essential sustainable development goal that will ensure health and well-being for all individuals. It will help in eradicating the issue of many people losing their lives since they have been pushed to poverty as they are required to pay for health services. Keeping these goals as listed will help to improve health outcomes and wellbeing of all people within Australia including the Aboriginal and the Torres Strait Islanders who are always faced by the problem determinants of health.

There are many observance days set by the UN that are related to health. Some of these include world health day, world autism day, and the international day against abuse of drug and illicit trafficking. However, among these observance days, world health day which is observed on 7 th April each year is the day that deserves to be the most special day. Considering the many contributions that the WHO has brought to the world, it is the day that should be considered special since it is the day that the organization was launched.

Furthermore, WHO’s main goal encompasses all of these other health related issues that have been given their own special days. For instance, autism, mental, drug abuse, and tobacco use are all health related issues which are the main focus that the WHO gives priority. Furthermore, the day is important since it raises people’s awareness of the special health theme to highlight the areas of priorities that the WHO are focusing. The day is special and important since WHO plays an important role in the worldwide control of health and diseases as a result of its key functions of establishing, monitoring, and enforcing global norms and standards as well as coordinating several actors that are working towards achieving the global health and wellbeing,

The evidence from the case study has been provided from WHO health statistical data. That means, the information has come from a reliable source since the WHO publishes the global health statistics each year for public access. However, the provided evidence can be corroborated by the WHO through their publication reports. Furthermore, the provided information is missing more information on how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the world. Since the COVID 19 is a worldwide pandemic that has affected health status of individuals, it would have been highlighted in the case study.
