The Constitution of the United States played a fundamental role in establishing America's governance system and basic laws. The constitution guarantees the protection of certain fundamental human rights since its signing on September 17, 1787, in the presence of different delegates from the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia (Tushnet, 2015). There are three crucial elements that the US Constitution identifies. They include; the preamble, the separation of powers in the three arms of government, and the Bill of rights.

The preamble illustrates the main reasons why the constitution was framed (Tushnet, 2015). Some of the reasons enlisted in the preamble are to establish a justice system that would serve every American, guarantee American domestic tranquillity, provide a common defense for all Americans, and enhance the general welfare. The constitution also identifies the separation of powers in the three arms of government.

The three prominent power institutions in the US government include the Executive, the Judiciary, and the Legislature. One of the Executive branch's constitutional provisions is establishing the President and Vice President's office, whose powers are well defined. In the Judiciary, the constitution describes all the court levels' powers, with the Supreme Court being the highest in the land. The legislative branch mainly entails the Congress, the Senate, and the House of Representatives. The constitution also identifies the Bill of rights, which ensures that each American's rights are respected.

The Articles of Confederation is a well-articulated document that focuses on the United States' national government (Jefferson, 2010). The article identifies three main vital points. First, on matters concerning the separation of powers, the article advocates integrating the government into institutions so that authority can be distributed away from the executive branch to conserve Americans' liberty (Jefferson, 2010). Secondly, it identifies the fundamental rights of people and guarantees their protection. Lastly, it states that power originates from the people.
