Social modality
Social psychology positively changes how people think about human behavior. The modality focuses on the behavior of a particular group in terms of how some intelligent people make ignorant decisions that result in disastrous repercussions when they unite (BC Campus, n.d). Again, social modality depicts intergroup relations, which is concerned with analyzing the effects of stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination. Finally, social psychology examines when people do and do not provide help to the needy.
Humanistic modality
Humanism is a psychological therapy that is concerned with one’s nature instead of generalizing some human flaws to everyone from a given background. It considers the positive aspects of the other individual in terms of how they use their instincts to find wisdom, growth, healing, and a sense of fulfillment. The humanistic approach to psychology also focuses on the importance of growth and self-actualization to help them solve both mental and social problems. Precisely, humanistic psychology is majorly concerned with self-concept, the hierarchy of needs, and unconditional positive regard (BC Campus, n.d). The theory argues that human behavior depends on a person’s inner feelings and self-image. In other words, human behavior originates from one’s perceptions of the world around him/her and that people are not solely the products of their environments. However, they are internally directed and encouraged to fulfill their human potential.

Chosen modality
We will use social modality to help us examine why people from one racial background can make informed decisions and adopt children from other races and the likely consequences of the action. The social aspect of psychology applies to child adoption, which is a major life-changing event in society today. For example, social modality improves how Latinos think about African-Americans and their perceptions to adopt transracially. Social psychology eliminates prejudices, stereotyping, and discrimination against people from other races. Therefore, it is a modality that positively changes people’s perceptions about others; hence, transforming their beliefs and attitudes about race and ethnicity. In this regard, social psychology helps most Latinos to embrace both opportunities and challenges regarding why they should adopt African-American children based on self-reflection. Notably, the modality helps the Latinos to comprehend the fact that African-Americans have done nothing wrong as a group and that the children are innocent; hence, they are worth adopting to help them cope psychologically.
The core psychological catalyst for the paradigm shift towards adopting African-American children is the motive to help them encounter racism and discrimination. Therefore, adoption in a multi-racial context enables children to overcome racial trauma that is conspicuous and make them fearful, hopeless, and sometimes powerless due to community profiling (Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology, 2017). Additionally, Latinos might have felt grief and heartbreak in the past due to racial trauma, which might have made them vulnerable and targeted by other racial groups (Psychology Today, 2019). Adopting African-American children is a way of consoling themselves to acknowledge Black parents and demonstrating an understanding of human beings rather than generalizing people from a particular origin. The kind of compassion that manifests itself here compels Latinos to openly discuss the various challenges affecting adopted children and find solutions to their grief and emotional trauma associated with racism.
The outcome of the adoption event is generally positive because the Latino adopting an African-American child will create space for an open and honest discussion about racial discrimination and the importance of adoption. The idea gives children confidence, which enables them to share their experiences with the future generation. However, multi-racial adoption can make the child feel safe because they can turn to their new parents for safety in case of scary incidences that may put their lives in jeopardy. Therefore, social psychology plays a vital role here by enabling Latino parents adopting children to share their feelings with them and positively respond to situations in a way that matches the children’s feelings (Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology, 2017). For example, they can express sadness, compassion, and outrage in ways that enhance understanding of each other. However, not all Latinos can respond in the same way. Some of them can affirm that both racism and discrimination are right in the face of humanity, possibly due to the social class that has cushioned them from experiencing the adverse repercussions of the actions. For example, they do not sympathize with the feelings of pain that traumatize the adopted children. This implies that Latinos that have different life experiences will respond to the incident in a completely different way.
Social modality can positively change people’s preconceived notions about adopting children from other races. For instance, the sociological aspect of psychology encourages both the middleclass and the affluent in society to adopt children by changing their assumptions. Therefore, they can help children that undergo psychological, neurological, social, and behavioral problems to overcome those challenges. The modality also helps Latino parents to change their feelings about children from other races and they eventually develop positive relationships that promote both honesty and good thoughts in the family. Similarly, it changes the parents’ religious beliefs about racism and they eventually develop positive attitudes for rescuing the innocent ones from the oppression from society.
Religious views hold positive perceptions about child adoption by stating that it is God’s plan to hope for children. The idea helps many people, specifically women, to develop positive instincts as a way of demonstrating that indeed, God has changed their hearts. Therefore, women should be ready to help others and they should always be prepared to place a child in their arms. The Kook of Genesis affirms this concept stating that “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in pain, you shall bring forth children…”. Finally, I would have positive outcomes following the adoption of the child due to justice for the child, who does not have much to say or voice.
