If I were a sociologist, I would subscribe to the feminist perspective. The feminist perspective focuses on addressing the patriarchy systems that have subjected women to unfair treatment, social and economic oppression and discrimination. As a result, women in the society have been subjected to systematic oppression whereas men have been considered as being superior to women. The feminist perspective explores a wide range of topics that seek to solve the issues of inequality. Therefore, through the feminist perspective, subjects such as sexual orientation, socio-economic status, nationality, and race are studied.
Consequently, by not focusing solely on the experiences and perspectives of men, feminist sociologists have devised social paradigms that are inclusive and creative. For instance, feminist sociologists are always keen to evaluate how systems of oppression and power relate to each other. This reveals that it does not only focus on gendered power and oppression – but how these two factors contribute to different forms of discrimination and prejudice.
