The initial topic was Examining gender difference in anxiety disorder which was later adjusted to Gender difference in age of onset and episode duration of anxiety disorder. The study’s initial thesis statement held there was a gender difference in anxiety disorder and the final thesis statement held that women are twice as men to experience anxiety disorder. The theory in this thesis statement indicates that there is a relationship between anxiety disorders and gender. Other studies have indicated controversial results. For instance, study conducted by Vedel (2005), found out that there was no significant difference in anxiety disorder between men and women. Women unlike men were presented with milder types of depression in outpatient settings. There was also no gender difference in the prevalence of depression in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. There is therefore limited information in regards to possible gender difference in duration of anxiety episodes and age of onset.
The thesis statement will help provide answers to existing questions on gender difference in anxiety disorder by explaining why a greater proportion of women unlike men experience anxiety disorders during childhood. The difference in proportion during childhood will be obtained from the difference in age of onset. Furthermore, the difference in duration episodes could also explain why there is a greater prevalence of anxiety disorder among women compared to men. By providing the answers on age of onset and episode duration will explain the high prevalence and higher rates of anxiety disorders in women compared to men.

The study will seek to diagnose the relationships between anxiety disorder and gender by looking at gender difference between age of onset for anxiety disorder as well as the episode duration. Other variables such as ethnicity will also be measured.
