Mental health is the general state of wellbeing of a person in relation his ability to perform cognitive functions satisfactorily. It pays attention to the mind and personal thinking, which influences overall social wellbeing. Mental health determines the relationship with of a person others, his behavioral conduct and stress management. It affects mood and decision making. Some of the factors that lead to mental health problems in an individual are family health history, genetics, substance abuse and difficult personal experiences (Forchuk, 2016). It is not only the youth who are affected by mental illness but also adults. A number of youth have been affected by mental health due to mobile telephone effects and with the radical evolution of technology in general. This causes them to experience symptoms of depression. What interested me the most in the article which I read, is that a majority of the youth suffering mental problems were using mobile phones and computers; 90.6% and 70.7% respectively. According to the study 71.9% experienced problems arising from the use of cell phones whilst 58.5% found problems using computers. My attention was especially caught by the detrimental effect a loss of cell phone has on the modern day youth who otherwise enjoys great connectivity and is greatly dependent on technology.
A large number of youth have experienced problems with depression. Depression is one of the most severe mental illnesses. Globally, about 350 million people in different stages of their growth suffer from depression but the most affected stage is the adolescent stage with the most percentage of the affected youth. They experience various debilitating negative effects such as decreased social life skills and low health levels (Forchuk, 2016).

Almost every youth has easy open access to electronic devices in the modern society. These electronic devices have been discovered to be the most contributing factor to mental disorders among a large number of the youthful population. It is however, also important to note that mobile phones and computers have been found to lower stress levels, reduce depression and improve the general social life of the youth due to the interactive nature of the devices. Personal health records are now computerized and easily accessible on the internet .This has improved the care provided to mental illness patients who now can get help by sharing information on their condition to health providers.
What also interested me, is that there are a lot of barriers that hinder the effective dealing with mental illness among the youths. The cost involved in treating this condition is relatively high. The youth are not motivated in any way to engage in therapy sessions which can help them with a management of their condition. The low rate of medication provided to mental illnesses is sickening. There is a state of desperation in which the affected youth who seek unavailable medication are left in. Although there are institutions established for offering mental treatment services, they are not enough to serve the many patients. This should raise a concern on what happens to those that are not lucky enough to get treatment (Forchuk, 2016).
There have been technological innovations to intervene in the current mental healthcare crisis among the youth globally. These interventions include health records, websites, cell phone use and messaging techniques. Technology has helped in addressing mental health recording problems. The use of this specific aspect of technology has improved the mental health of a large number of youths. Depression therapy sessions have also helped deal with depression suffered by many. Therapy treatment has been the best as it has proven to bring positive outcomes. Youth affected by mental illness should therefore be highly encouraged to join institutions that offer depression therapy services.
A number of projects have been on the run to increase and expand the use of technology to maintain electronic personal health records so as to help reduce the depressing effects of poor mental health among the youth. For example, the youth mental health records engagement network aimed at expanding the statistics from the mental health engagement network project by increasing the use of electronic personal health records specifically for the youth. These projects have helped in mental healthcare provision for many depressed youths. The spontaneous use of mobile phones by youth and the electronic mental health intervention systems have helped in mental health treatment. This projects have been aiming at increasing the accessibility of inventive technological healthcare to many of the youth suffering from mental health diseases and also to the care providers (Welfel & Ingersoll, 2001).
Therapy treatment for mental health on the youth has greatly fostered a good relationship between the care providers and the patients. Better communication between the care providers and the affected youths has contributed to their healthy relationship. The electronic mental health care has initiated communication, improved interactions and the responsiveness of care providers to their patients, conveniently and at any given time. Care providers can now engage their patients in unique and in different ways at any given time and therefore improving the quality of their services. The Lawson SMART Records were found to facilitate healthy communication between care providers and the patients and this improved interaction during their therapy appointments.
There is a lot to learn from the article. The nature of the mental health, its causes, symptoms and its effects on one’s life. The article gives a clear understanding on how to manage mental health problems, getting treatment and guidelines on what to do to prevent yourself from suffering from mental health issues. It clearly states some of the daily activities that facilitate mental illness in a person. Therefore, people should read this article since people from all ages are susceptible to mental problems.
The presence or rather absence of particular aspects in life cause mental health. As young children mature and get through the adolescent stage, they experience mental disorders due to emotional disturbance in their daily activities in which the symptoms persist and at this stage, health care is needed. Statistics show that one out of five youth suffer from mental health and this brings negative outcomes such as isolation from other people.
