One year after the president took office; changes made in foreign policy by his administration appear to bear success, despite the criticism that has emerged from the same ("A Trump Foreign Policy", 2018). Trump’s foreign policy stands on placing America’s interests first and making allies with nations that take America’s position seriously. This initially appeared to compromise America’s national security, but as time goes by, it appears to work towards ensuring that America remains safe, and its allies are protected from unlawful attacks by other nations. In his policy, Trump has increased the military budget and demonstrated his willingness to use military force against any nation that goes against America’s interests ("A Trump Foreign Policy", 2018). One such example is the case for Syria where Trump deployed military action against the country.

However, this stand exposes America to more threats than before. By threatening to take military action against its foes, America becomes more exposed to emerging nations such as North Korea who have recently assembled nuclear weapons and demonstrated their willingness to use them ("A Trump Foreign Policy", 2018). Others such as militant groups ISIS and Al-Qaeda still want to demonstrate their power and ability by attacking America ("The 5 most pressing foreign policy problems facing the Trump administration in 2018", 2018). Trump’s foreign policy notes that America has become over-generous with its resources, America has lost respect from other nations, other nations have stopped making a fair share to the global units such as the United Nations, and America has lost its foreign policy goals ( Trump’s five foreign policy problems, and solutions , 2018)

To correct the problems identified, there are two solutions that can be employed. One solution is the use of military force against nations that threaten America’s national security ( Trump’s five foreign policy problems, and solutions , 2018) .. Already this solution has been seen in action in both Syria and Ukraine where drone attacks and arming of Ukraine’s army has been done respectively ("The 5 most pressing foreign policy problems facing the Trump administration in 2018", 2018). . Though it is being seen to bear results, this solution poses more danger to America as nations such as North Korea have stated their willingness to make nuclear attacks to America if threatened to.

Another solution that has been employed in the past is the use of diplomacy and sanctions against America’s foes. In essence, sanctions instituted against a country deprive that country of some benefits. This solution seeks at denying the country that is deemed to be against America’s interests the ability to trade with America, or even with other countries in the world. America may also seek support from other world superpowers in introducing more democratic negotiations with its foes such as North Korea other than threatening to attack North Korea to force it to stop nuclear weapon activity ( Trump’s five foreign policy problems, and solutions , 2018) .. This approach is the best to employ in ensuring America’s national security is maintained, and the threats are neutralized. It also falls in line with ensuring the goals of Trump’s foreign policy are met.

The three arms of the federal government play a key role in foreign policy implementation. The congress is responsible for ensuring that all treaties made by the country are in line with the country’s interests. The US Department of State is responsible for ensuring the implementation of the foreign policy arrangements including military actions and the judiciary helps in ensuring that implementation of the foreign policy does not go against the law.
