My main goal of studying psychology is to understand human behavior and offer solutions to some of the issues affecting people. I envision my practice of psychology being in a hospital setting working side by side with other health care providers. My major interest is to become a clinical psychologist specialized in treating major psychological disorders such as depression. My day to day activities will include talking to clients to help them overcome some of their immediate concerns (Liebowitz & Blattner, 2015). My dream is to assist business executives, athletes, musicians, and many other celebrities to help them cope with life stressors. I aware that I will be dealing with a wide range of clients with varied personal issues, including divorce, death and other traumatic experiences. My approach would be to display the three core conditions in counseling for clients to feel accepted and valued (American Psychological Association, 2009). My practice will involve applying different approaches of understanding and interpreting situations to assist clients where possible. I will strive to learn new skills at the same time develop previously learned skills by consulting with my colleagues using both informal conversations and formal supervisions (American Psychological Association, 2009).
My major contribution to the larger community is to help young people who wants to become psychologists to venture into research and education. In the future, I plan to teach counseling programs and also give back to the community where grew up. I plan to offer free counseling programs for young people to assist them go through the right path in life. As suggested by Sternberg (1997) in chapter six, psychologists can make major contributions within the health care system. Psychologists has varied responsibilities such as instructing students to become competent health care professionals. Psychologists advise health care providers on some of the psychological issues related to certain illnesses ,this help them offer better diagnosis and treatment (Sternberg , 1997).
