Racism can be described as discrimination and prejudice on people by their race and ethnicity. The ideology behind racism includes the concepts that humans can be subdivided into different sections because of their social behavior and their innate capabilities or that they can be ranked as inferior or superior. Racism has caused severe suffering from many years back, and it is imperative to appreciate the way it works. It is a passive view of a particular category of people founded on the solely on their memberships in the ethnic. It is a particular art of prejudice that involves prejudicial behaviors to a certain ethnic category. In its interpretation, the race is in a way variable though it refers to an ethnic that comes from a particular continent including African, European and Asian continents. It is the aim of this study to explore the issue of racism using a personality theory framework to enhance the understanding of the social issue.

Using an attribution theory, the issue of Racism can be understood concerning the past incidence in Ferguson, Missouri that displays the appropriate to resolve the problem of racism in America. Racism acts are contrary to the ideals of Americans and the constitutional statute of social fairness. In 2014, there was a long deliberation where a grand jury in Missouri reached a decision not to indict an American police officer for gunning down a young black man. The decision was based on the evaluation of the evidence that felt there was no enough evidence to substantiate the police negligently gunned down the man conclusively. Before the grand jury, the media outlets in the United States reported consistently that the officer might have acted on racial grounds and thus killing the man. Various reports from media implied accusations of racism and brutality of the police, and there was little news to counter the claims. It is a biased media reporting that appears to be the trend in the United States and because of the biases; many legal experts were astonished by the quality of the grand jury not to indict even when there was a lot of pressure. There had been stories that the man had been gunned down even when he raised his hands in a sign of surrender.

The definitions of the terms used in social psychology intervention in efforts to reducing racism is an important aspect while headed to a collective understanding of the social issues in Americas. As per Hudson (2012), racism and prejudice appear to have distinct meanings, and they are not to be employed in a way that can be exchanged. Prejudice is an element people use to secure themselves from harm or danger. People tend to assume things regarding people and circumstances based on own experience and learning. The concept of race is seen to be a matter of perception. The beliefs of people whether judged or not based on their race affects the way they feel about a situation. Many people have noted that the blacks never attribute passive values to themselves following the color of the skin but their belief that while people look down upon them ( Hudson, 2012 ).

It is unfortunate that the cognition is taught to children at their early stage. According to a theory of social comparison, people have a desire to come up with their precise evaluations and make a comparison of them to others in assuming these assessments. The theory also discloses that many are highly influenced by their social surrounding as other studies display that people closely identify themselves based on their color.
