Public wellness is an essential component that any government ought to consider seriously since a healthy population is a productive one. Consequently, the public health sector has partnered with health care systems to try and solve the problem of affordable health care and prevalence of lifestyle induced diseases due to income disparities. This essay will highlight some of the ways in which this collaborative effort is working towards providing solutions.

Sharing of data between local health departments and hospital. Local health units have data on vital statistics such as birth and death rates of particular age groups in every jurisdiction. Further, local health departments also own statistics from census and the determinants of health as well as morbidities of a certain disease. On the other hand, hospitals have data pertaining a specific individual, when these two sources of data are used together, potential solutions to healthcare problems can easily be dealt with. Furthermore, Pestronk et al. (2013) states that health equity can be achieved from a collaboration between public health and healthcare systems. This is because the local health departments formulate guidelines that ensure the surroundings in which people inhabit are healthy whereas the healthcare systems have the knowledge and competence of caring and treating a certain population. However, this approach experiences setbacks which include the difficulty of sharing healthcare information. Patient data is privately protected and sharing information is heavily restricted (Benton and Polite, 2016). This is a step-back in actualizing the ultimate benefits of this collaboration. Moreover, public health’s main mandate is ensuring well-being of citizens while healthcare systems are motivated by making profits therefore the collaboration is hampered by different motives.

When a community is at risk because someone or a few people show signs of having the coronavirus or if they have been exposed to the contagion. As Mahealthcare (2021) argues, they are supposed to be quarantined to reduce or potentially eliminate any chances of the virus spreading to the rest of the community. For quarantine to be ethically correct there should be a clear evidence of interpersonal spread of the disease otherwise it could be considered a limit to human rights and social distancing measures should be a consideration because of the adverse impacts it can have on people’s lives both socially and economically.
