The article assesses the use of prayer as an approach of cognitive behavioral therapy and it analyzes the impact of this type of intervention. One issue that has been mentioned is the fact that cognitive behavioral therapy is widely accepted form of intervention. It has also been determined that behavioral activation is applicable with patients and has positive outcomes in patients (Tan,2007).It has been revealed that cognitive behavioral therapy has been expanded to include mindfulness as well as acceptance based therapies.it is also revealed that mindfulness and acceptance based CBT has spiritual foundations and it will often implement Christian perspectives. The use of religiously oriented CBT has been developed in recent years and has become popular in recent times. The use of spiritually oriented CBT has seen to be successful especially in patients who have clinical depression as well as anxiety disorder. 

It is mentioned that the use of spiritual methods such as prayer and the use of scripture is effective in the treatment of CBT.Various features of CBT have been mentioned and the main emphasis includes the use of a Christian approach in treatment of patients. Implicit as well as explicit integration are crucial factors in the implementation of the treatment. The article includes an assessment of clients using prayer and scripture in the treatment of anxiety disorders (Tan, 2007).The appropriate use of prayer and scripture have an important role to play and will be used when needed but not in every session. The interventions used in such a scenario include the use of prayer and inner healing prayer. The outcomes from patients are used in explaining then effectiveness of this use of therapy on the patient in different scenarios.

The use of prayer and scripture in cognitive behavioral therapy has been proven as an effective method of treating patients. The use of Christian spirituality in CBT has been proven to have a positive effect on the individual therefore leading to desirable outcomes. Implementing the use of scripture in counselling will focus on empowering the individual and encouraging the person to improve on areas of weakness (Tan, 2007).Scripture has been used for various purposes such as comforting the patient as well as clarification and spiritual uplifting. The use of this method is especially effective in giving cognitive reconstruction using prayer and scripture in a supportive setting. The scripture has been proven an effective tool in the time of stress and it offers guidance to the individual concerning various issues. The use of the scripture is designed to meet the needs of the individual in order to ensure that they are engaged in finding solutions to problems from a holistic aspect. 

Spiritual connection has an important role to play in counselling and will have positive effects on the individual. There are different issues to consider in the use of scripture as a method of offering CBT.It will include the identification of spiritual resources that will assist in counselling the patient and address any issues that the patient may be facing. It will include the use of psychotherapeutic interventions, which ensure spiritual as well as religious beliefs in therapy that is effective (Tan, 2007).It has been adapted as a form of cognitive behavioral therapy in the treatment of various conditions. One major aspect of this treatment method is the fact that it can be integrated for use in various religions such as Islam as well as Christianity. The integration of religion in CBT will successfully assist the patient to develop a positive outlook to life based on the implementation of spiritual solutions to issues that one may be facing. The aim of this form of treatment is to ensure better outcomes related to the patient as well as ensuring a better outlook to life. 

Application 

Applying the use of scripture in cognitive behavioral therapy with terminally ill patients would help improve their general attitude. It has been revealed that the use of spirituality in counselling will reduce the physical as well as mental systems and it will reduce pain within patients. It may also lead to greater longevity in patients especially in patients who had experienced deteriorating health (Tan, 2007).The use of spirituality in counselling terminally ill patients will decrease the rate of decline in such patients. It will act as a protective resource that prevents the development of disease in individuals. It will include the use of scripture and biblical passages in counselling patients who are suffering from terminal illnesses. It will include utilizing scriptures in various ways such as helping patients to gain insight into feelings and behaviors and teaching the patients new ways of coping with difficult situations. 

It involves the use biblical passages to challenge as well as modify dysfunctional beliefs and also to reframe and understand problems from a spiritual perspective. It will also include clarifying and enriching the understanding of doctrines of religion and integrating this in the treatment of the patient. The counsellor can implement spiritual passages and use them to counsel the patient in a particular situation (Tan,2007).Such an approach will have a major role to play in improving the outcomes of patients who are terminally ill.Scripture use in cognitive based therapy will be a successful approach with terminally ill patients and will give them the will to live as well as an appreciation of life despite the situation that they are facing.Therefore,spiritual cognitive based therapy has an important role to play in treating terminally ill patients.
