Venn diagrams are pictorial representations of different components or entities and their relationships. This illustration shows a Venn diagram that focuses on political parties in America. It brings out a clear picture of how these parties share common grounds about some policies and what makes them different. It focuses on three main political orientations which include, republicans, democrats, and libertarians. From the diagram, it is clear that Democrats and Republicans make up the two dominant political parties in America and it is quite hard to be elected to a public office without identifying as one.
These parties have clear conflicting stands on different issues or policies most of the time. However, there are some instances, though rare, where the parties agree on some things in a bipartisan manner. According to the diagram, Republicans are more conservative and dislike too much government control (Wiebe, 2017) . They also focus on individual rights with religion. The Democrats, on the other hand, are rather liberal and they focus on public duty. They believe the government’s core function is to protect its people. The third group, the libertarians, focus on individual responsibility. They believe that each person should be free to do what they believe is right. As such, every group has its distinct beliefs that they uphold. It is what sets them aside from the others, it is essentially what defines them as an entity.

The Venn diagram also shows that though they each have independent beliefs; they share some common ground on certain issues. This is illustrated by the regions where the circles intersect. Here, it’s clear that both republicans and democrats want laws to be simpler or rather more defined (Grossmann & Hopkins, 2016) . The Republicans and the Libertarians advocate for the freedom to possess arms while the Democrats and Libertarians support immigration. All three groups support tax reformation. They all wish to see a strong American economy. Evidently, this Venn diagram is effective in showing the similarities and differences that exist between political parties in America.
