In art, implied lines are the demarcations that are used to determine the edge of an object or the plain that can be used to differentiate an object. In most cases, such lines will occur in an object where the colors, textures are used to change the shape of the object when doing the artwork. However, in some cases, an implied line may extend beyond the edge of an object majorly in a scenario where the artist has an imagination that the line goes from one person’s eye to the next (Yang et al., 2017). In simple terms, the lines are often indicated at the edges where two shades meet in the artwork.

Contour lines on the other hand, are often used in artwork to surround and define the edges of the object to be drawn hence giving it its shape and volume. Notably, the line is different from others used in artwork because it is used to define outer edges within a form such as wrinkles, shapes and fold hence giving a suggestion of the depth and the height of the object (Yang et al., 2017). However, they always vary in thickness and darkness.

An outline in the artwork is a line that surrounds a shape and they are usually of the same thickness throughout as opposed to contours that vary in thickness. An important difference between the other lines is that only the outer edges of the shapes are always defined. The line is considered as one of the most essential in arts because it is the first step of drawing an object because it will give the boundaries of the object before it is shaded (Yang et al., 2017). In most cases, they appear flat because they are associated with little variation.
