Research entails systematic analysis of material and events through social and scientific methods as a way of establishing facts. Incorporating research programs promotes a sound academic foundation that creates numerous benefits to both students and society. According to Zepke and Leach (2010), research openings for students at institutions of higher learning through the provision of platforms to display findings enhancers their learner capabilities. Research studies in learning institutions influence how learners can contextualize learning aspirations capable of promoting lasting impact as undergraduates learning (Jenkins, Healey, & Zetter, 2007). Institutional faculties affiliated with teaching institutions help improve learning proficiency for students.

Research allows students to formulate solutions on problems considered to face society. Conducting research enables students to articulate their knowledge in providing solutions that best suit existing challenges within society (Zepke & Leach, 2010). Through the application of professional competence and knowledge, research allows students to communicate their ideas into an already existing pool of knowledge (Jenkins, Healey, & Zetter, 2007). Students become conversant with their social role as intellectuals forming partnerships with relevant authorities and institutions in building knowledge for future reference.

Research is conducted in the social context. Engaging students to take up research programs allow them to develop their social skills and perspectives. Through research, learners become conversant with the norms and attitudes that exist in their society helping them build on professionalism (Jenkins, Healey, & Zetter, 2007). Competent students who undertake research come out much enthused with the interactions of social dynamics making it easier for them to understand different concepts as they play out in real life.

Institutes of higher learning especially colleges should entrench research within its programs. Research skills necessarily prepare students professionally as they approach the age of professional engagement. Engaging students from learning institutions to contribute to scholarly research increase their chances of innovation and knowledge in spearheading social change.
