From my field experience learning contract and the mid-term evaluation form, I would say that the area that I have depicted significant growth is on the issues of making ethical decisions. The ethical decisions were made using the standards of the NASW code of ethics, relevant laws and regulations, and models for ethical decisions. My field instructor would explicitly say that my most prominent area of growth is the use of reflection and self-regulation to manage personal values and maintain professionalism in practice and the demonstration of professional demeanor in behavior, appearance and oral written and electronic communication. In this scenario, I would always assess myself to make sure that all the set goals and objectives are achieved. The rules would make me stay in a good relationship with the instructors and other people in the field. On the other hand, I would be decent when asking questions and would use text messages and e-mails during the scheduled time to ask the instructors questions and to seek clarifications.
I think that I should focus on and improve more on policy practice. This is an area where I did not score maximum points. There is a need to improve because I should be able to assess how social welfare and economic policies impact the delivery and access to services. My instructor would say that I am too general, and I should look at specific people in society when engaging in policy practice. Additionally,
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
I should also apply critical thinking to analyze, formulate, and advocate for policies that advance human rights and social, economic, and environmental justice. An example is that I did not identify critically the ways through which various people experience discrimination and oppression when accessing various sets of resources at the agency. This could be what made me fail to grasp all the points.
In policy practice, I think I lacked enough knowledge to make me review various sets of literature that are related to social, economic and environmental justice policies and their impacts on the public served by the agency and be in pole position of presenting the information in staff meetings and other appropriate settings. Also, I had inadequate skills to improve client access like I did not work with the administration of the agency to provide services to people who had been previously denied certain services.
Still, in policy practice, I think I did not grasp the maximum points because of varying priorities. The community was not willing to go back and seek the same services that the agency had denied some people. I think I should have brought the service to them rather than asking them to come to the agency again. Insufficient funding was also a factor that made fail in the policy practice section. Since I was an intern, I did not receive enough funds to eat and travel more. Sometimes I would be prompted to use my little savings. I should have written a letter to the management to add more funds or provide us with lunch and breakfast.
The evaluation with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities largely contributed to my strengths. I worked on my strengths here by trying to apply evaluation findings to improve practice effectiveness at micro and macro levels. I worked on my significant limitations by using my savings when I came across difficulties related to funding. I believe that this encounter in the field has made significant impact in my professional growth and further bolstered my comprehension of the course thus far.
