Millennials are a group of people born in the 1980s and 1990s, with the majority of them being at the ages 20s and 30s. They are also known as Generation Y, a generational demographic cohort following generation X and preceding generation Z. This group is found between the silent generation who knows less of the technology and the digital generation who are technologically oriented. However, generation Y seem to dominate many areas of the US sectors, with many found within all the traditional pillars of adulthood such as marriage, home ownership and leading the other generations in the consumption of goods in America.

Jia Tolentino notes that millennials are a stereotypical generation which is self-serving and are found to dominate the hotels, departmental stores, car industry, home ownership, and marriage. They are rocking many of the sectors in the US with their consumption behavior. The millennials have been trapped into the culture of consumerism which has affected their American society, with this generation having more consumption power than the other younger generations. They are working in exchange for a life, doing poorly paid and unsecured jobs and spending all their money on expensive coffee (Tolentino, 2017). Tolentino notes that the stereotypical millennials behaviors are a product of the current cultural and economic climate rather than the cause. The millennials are a confident, ambitious and open-minded group who are determined, but they are disengaged by the disruptive self-interest, narcissistic and distrustful. While they have come of age rocked with underemployment and hard economic times, they have adopted a culture of a spendthrift and disruptive self-interests which has slowly affected America today.
