According to Lutz (2019), men form a third of the people with eating disorders. The athletes form a larger fraction of the men with the disorders. He explores the reasons why they are at a higher risk compared to other individuals. He also discusses why it is hard for the athletes and the people around them to detect that they have the problem. Finally, the article focuses on the probable solution to the problem. This paper summarizes the article as discussed by Lutz (2019) by highlighting the vital points covered about eating disorders in men athletes.

Men are predisposed to eating disorders because of their intense diet and training. The intensity is stimulated by their desire to acquire a perfect body. Furthermore, the competitions are very competitive to the extent that only intense training gives them an age. As such the athletes put more emphasis on performance at the expense of what they ingest. Another risk factor is "bro science." According to Lutz (2019), it predisposes the athletes to eating disorders because it makes them push for unrealistic body expectation and dangerous online behaviors. The risky behaviors include reliance on high regiment diets.

It is hard for the athletes and those around them to distinguish between commitment for the game and the problem. As such, most of the athletes live with the disorders thinking it’s normal. The problem worsened by the desire to enhance their performance that drives them further into being trapped by the disorders. They, however, realize they have an eating disorder when it is late.

Handling the disorders among the athletes have proved challenging because they shy away from seeking help. As such they struggle with it silently. However, Lutz (2019) advices the men athlete to come up in large numbers and voice out the problem. He believes that the only way the athletes will escape from the problem is by speaking up and seeking professional help. Some of the athletes have already come out to seek help, and it proves beneficial. There is a need for awareness of both the athletes and those around them. Lutz (2019) concludes by noting that, if the disorders affect the athletes that are considered warriors, then it is a bigger problem than the society needs to address.
