Over the year, the figure of individuals who smoke has enlarged despite the fact that public sensitization to the dangers of smoking has been conducted. People make a personal choice to smoke but unfortunately, it normally turns out to be an exceedingly addictive habit. Smoking affects both the cigarette smoker and the individuals around. Smoking in the public makes the smoke to scatter all over, therefore, affecting all the living organisms around. Smoking in public places portrays a bad example. Therefore, due to these reasons and many more, smoking should be burned in public places.

Smoking in public places portrays an immoral example to the general public. Children usually imitate the people around them since their ability to differentiate between right and wrong is not well developed. The children being exposed to smokers in public places will make them curious and therefore imitate whenever they get a chance. Teenagers sometimes associate smoking with being "cool" and therefore allowing public smoking will validate their misguided belief and make them chose to start smoking.

Smoking in the public threatens the life of both the smoker and the general public around. A study shows that secondary smoking is very dangerous to the public. It causes lung cancer, asthma, respiratory infections heart attacks and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) in children. A research done by the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) show that second-hand smoke has toxic chemicals that cause cancer. The passive smokers have the right to be protected by the state and local authorities from the negative side effects of passive smoking. Hence, smoking should be banned to protect them.

Prohibition of smoking in public places will reduce the smoking rate of smokers. People will be allowed to only smoke in their private homes of designated smoking zones. This means that as long as they are not in these areas they cannot smoke. This will force smokers to have a smoking plan and quash any craving as long as they are in public places. This will also make it easy for those smokers who are struggling to quit smoking. Therefore smoking in public places should be banned.

If smoking is banned in public areas then it will discourage non-smokers from becoming smokers. Not having people smoking all over in public places will significantly reduce the temptation for non-smokers to start smoking. Therefore, smoking in public should be burned.

Some people may argue that banning smoking in public areas infringes the rights of the smokers. Yes, they have their right but the non-smokers too have a right to smoke clean uncontaminated air. Smoking is a personal choice and therefore it should not interfere with a basic need for breathing clean air. Cigarette producing companies also see the ban as interference to their business but a healthy lifestyle and a clean environment are more important than just making profits. Banning smoking in public places will make the environment clean since cigarette buds won’t be thrown all in public places.

In conclusion, smoking in public places has numerous side effects to both the user and the public. Although some people may oppose this ban their reasons cannot out weight the positive impact the ban will have. Therefore, smoking should be banned in all public places.
