The winter season is mainly characterized by dull and gloomy days where fewer outdoor activities occur as most people choose to stay in their homes due to the extreme cold conditions compared to the summer, where loads of outdoor activities occur due to the favorable temperatures. In the summer, days are longer while nights are shorter. However, in the winter, we experience longer nights and shorter days. Summer is more preferable to most people than winter due to the warmer temperatures, longer days, and lots of activities available during the summer,

In the United States, summers are characterized by warmer temperatures and better weather. Most days are hot and sunny during the summer, having clear skies with temperatures ranging between 52.3 degrees F to around 81.1degrees F. For instance, the average temperature for August 2020 was 74.7 degrees F. Moreover, the average temperature in the summer of 2020 was 73.6 degrees F. This is in contrast to winter, where most days are cold and cloudy with rain and snow. The average winter temperatures range from a high of 67.4 degrees F, experienced in Hawaii, and a low of 2.6 degrees F in Alaska (Noaa, 2019). With the exclusion of these two states, the average winter temperature is around 33.2 degrees F. This stark difference results from the northern hemisphere angling towards the sun during the summer, where the sun rays hit the earth at a steep angle making the sunlight hit more directly, thereby warming up in the northern hemisphere LOC, n.d). In contrast, during the winter, the northern hemisphere is pointed away from the sun, making the sun rays hit at a shallow angle. This makes the sun rays spread out, which reduces the impact of the sun rays on the earth's surface.

During the summer there are more indoor and outdoor activities. The better weather and warmer temperatures in the summer provide a conducive time and place where more outdoor activities can occur as most public spaces are clear of snow. Most Americans are always eager for the summer due to the array of recreational activities available such as hiking and picnics with barbeques and going to the beach, which takes place in the summer. Due to the warm temperatures, most people feel more free as they dress in very light clothing such as t-shirts, shorts, and bikinis. Moreover, life is more enjoyable in the summer, as most people are more energetic to perform routine activities. On the other hand, in the winter, indoor activities are mostly done due to the extreme cold conditions that may affect our bodies. Moreover, various outdoor activities in the winter, such as skiing, can also be done during the summer.

During the summer, we experience longer days and shorter nights. This is because the earth tilts towards the sun in the northern hemisphere in the summer, thereby providing more sunlight, making the days longer and the nights shorter. In contrast, in the winter, the earth tilts away from the sun in the northern hemisphere, thereby receiving less sunlight, which creates longer nights and shorter days (BBC, 2017). This makes most people prefer the summers as more activities can be accomplished during the day. In conclusion, even though some people prefer winter, summer is most preferable due to the warmer temperatures, longer days, and activities.

Summer has many benefits such as better temperatures, longer days, and more activities making it more preferable to winter. Due to the extremely low temperatures in the winter, there are unfavorable weather conditions like rain and snow, which may not be suitable for outdoor activities. This is in great contrast to the summer, where many outdoor activities are done due to the warm temperatures and longer days.
