Creativity Summary
Creativity is one of the twenty-four sub-categories of strengths associated with the virtue of wisdom. Besides, perspective, love of learning, judgment, and curiosity make up for the other strengths that help us gather and use knowledge under that virtue. Researchers define creativity based on the impact it has on the groups or the external environment. For instance, Big C creativity describes the creativity that results in a significant transformation of large groups of people. Researchers note that the influence of big C creativity during the course of history transformed the world in substantial measures. On the other hand, little c creativity affects an individual or a few individuals at a smaller scale. Little c creativity is associated with solving common problems and everyday routines. According to Miller (2021), creativity is thinking intending to produce novel ways of conceptualizing and doing things, including but not limited to artistic achievements. Therefore, originality and adaptiveness are the essential characteristics of creativity.
I gained several insights and knowledge from the experiential learning activity involving creativity, including practicing and enhancing my imagination as a student. For instance, I began to approach school assignments creatively by contemplating diverse solutions to subject problems by subjecting questions to considerable imaginative skills. Secondly, I learned how to enhance my creative skills by using mindmaps to organize and link ideas together. Mindmaps offer a chain of ideas that can be developed and improved by referencing and tracing the flow of thoughts (Kalyar & Kalyar, 2018). Furthermore, my divergent thinking, which involves my creative interpretations of a question in multiple ways, has significantly improved. I can think of several solutions to everyday problems involving my friends at school and my family at home. Most importantly, I learned that people could improve and assess their creativity through scientifically developed tools such as the Lifetime Creativity Scale and the Consensual Assessment techniques to measure their little c creativity objectively. However, the Creative Achievement Scale can calculate a persons’ big C creativity and evaluate their lifework.

Relationship to Positive Psychology
Creativity correlates highly to positive psychology in several ways. Most important is that “being creative” reinforces the need for openness, supportiveness, and informality to increase individual or institutional creativity (Miller, 2021). An unsupportive system may constrain the environment, thus resulting in the suffocation of creativity. It is reported that highly creative people work simultaneously on multiple problems to allow ideas to marinate in unconstrained environments. Furthermore, a survey conducted by Kalyar & Kalyar (2018) found a strong positive relationship between the wisdom strength of creativity and employees’ creative performance, revealing that stressors or constraints negatively influenced the wisdom strengths and employees’ optimal human functioning. Creativity demonstrates the principles and concepts of positive psychology as it contributes to developing a research connection between creativity, personality. When people incorporate character strengths such as creativity within their routine activities, it will help build and foster the expansion of employees’ creative actions and identify innovative and superior methods to achieve optimal human functioning.
Application to Personal or Professional Issues
The lessons from the study of the creativity character strength are essential to several areas of my personal and professional experiences. By identifying several ways of arriving at better and original conclusions, tasks become easy to accomplish, thereby improving performance and likelihood of being competitive in the constrained job market. In addition, applying creativity to aspects of my academic and professional life would be essential for developing divergent thinking and help me feel comfortable and adapt to a variety of challenging situations and stresses (Miller, 2021). The objective is to generate novel and unusual ideas and behaviors that can positively contribute to my life and other groups of people in society. For example, during project presentations, I would creatively organize my ideas using mindmaps to involve members to solve problems as a team effectively. In so doing, I would take a new imaginative skill in perspective that would be essential to solving common subtle and technical issues in many areas of my life and the community.
Nevertheless, despite its significant positive implications, certain limitations exist alongside creativity. Most importantly, many recent studies suggest that creativity may have a genetic basis (Kalyar & Kalyar, 2018). If that is so, the character strength of creativity might prove to be a medical concern rather than a personality issue. Creativity is of great significance in every proportion of life and is associated with the “openness and ability to wrestle with life’s greatest questions” (Miller, 2021). Association of creativity with the DNA would thus suggest the need for research into how the trait can be introduced into the genes of individuals without creativity, with appropriate considerations to the medical code of ethics. Secondly, there is a need to conduct more research on the correlation between the other human virtues such as judgment, curiosity and perspective, and creativity to establish the links between big C creativity and little c creativity, since researchers have established that these strengths exist degree in every person.
