For the pro-choice, abortion is moral and a plus for the lives of the mothers because fetuses are not people. The argument does not consider fetuses as members of the moral community, thus, a moral and legal process in the termination of pregnancy.
Additionally, the pro-choice argument highlights that women are members of the moral community as they are undeniable persons. In this aspect, the argument highlights that women should have the right to decide when to terminate pregnancy because of being people, as well as members of the moral community. Pro-choice arguments also highlight lack of justification for the laws, which deny women their rights to secure abortion. These laws make it difficult for women to make safe abortion decisions. From this perspective, the group believes that these laws in question are violations of the basic moral, as well as constitutional rights of the women as members of the moral community (Martin, 2018). The group calls for eradication of these laws to create room in which safe abortion is available to women in the moral and legal aspects.
On the other hand, according to the pro-life argument, women do have the right to control their bodies. Nonetheless, the group believes that this right ends with birth control or sterilization rather than abortion. The group presents abortion as an illegal termination of the life of an individual or member of society. Based on this illustration, the argument perceives a fetus as human life; thus, the value to become someone important in society. Pro-life also believes that abortion goes against the feminist cause, which demands male support, as well as responsibility in the child-rearing process (Laborde, 2018). Categorically, in the pros and cons debate, the overriding issues are the rights of the mother and the perception of the fetus. For those who consider fetus to be a human life, abortion is illegal and immoral in its practice. Conversely, for those who consider fetus as not being a member of a moral community, abortion should be an issue of the mother exercising her right to decide on what she does with her body. These aspects are vital in coining the pros and cons of abortion.
