What is your definition of cultural competence?
According to my perspective, cultural competence revolves around our will and activities to develop a fathoming among individuals’ cultures, appear respectful and appreciate various cultural diversity, enhance the security of the culture, and treat all the people equally. Relationship development is an essential tool for cultural competence and gets premised on fathoming different people’s expectations and thoughts ( Moule, 2011) . Cultural competence requires the following principles; trust, faithfulness, fairness, social justice, and respect for diversity. Cultural competence enshrines knowing a personal world view, enhancing the right attitude on cultural diversity, bearing the knowledge of various cultural practices, and honing communication skills.
Explain how this is similar or different to the Kirst-Ashman and Hull textbook describe cultural competence
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
Kirst-Ashman & Hull (2018) describes cultural competence as fathoming of the concept of culture, acknowledging each culture's strength, getting the information about the cultures of other people continuously, and acknowledging the differences of each culture. Kirst-Ashman and Hull and my definition of cultural competence are related since they recognize the need for appreciating the culture of different groups of the people. The two definitions also emphasize the need to respect the culture of various groups of the people and require one to know various cultural practices. Furthermore, the two definitions are related since they need one to portray respect to different people's cultures.
Explain the skills you think are necessary for developing cultural competence as a social worker when working with Eboni?
As a social worker working with Eboni, one ought to have various skills for enhancing effectiveness. Firstly, a social worker should possess strong advocacy skills so that he can manage to instill a certain behavior and thoughts in Eboni ( Reamer, 2013) . Secondly, a social worker should have strong leadership skills such he will be able to give Eboni a clear direction on what to follow and what not to follow. Thirdly, the social worker ought to have cultural curiosity skills, this will enable him to tolerate beliefs and practices of Eboni instead of him judging Eboni and her family. Finally, the social worker should demonstrate cultural flexibility whereby he will have different styles and methods of solving Eboni’s problems.
