Kevin Bullis’ article The Geoengineering Gambit elucidates the contemporary issues surrounding climate change. The author argues that while there has been a consensus against radical global warming control measures in the past, scientists are recommending the need to apply such approaches regardless of their implications. Bullis (2010) pays significant attention to diminishing water sources, particularly melting snow. Notable glaciers such as the Himalayan’s are in the risk of extinction in the next 25 years, which could be catastrophic to a significant part of Asia whose rivers rely on the glaciers supply.

Consequently, scientists globally are advocating the need to consider other alternatives by initiating research and geoengineering projects. The latter encompasses high-tech equipment that will facilitate the triggering of massive algae blooms by initiating trillions of sun shields into space (Bullis, 2010). The author proceeds to provide critical instances of geoengineering proposals, some of which are causing mixed reactions amid experts. In effect, the technology is perceived as an alternative to minimizing greenhouse gas emissions.

Additionally, Bullis (2010) points out several issues surrounding the implementation of geoengineering, such as its overwhelming costs of installation and maintenance, as well as the long-term implication on future generations. However, the article highlights the pros of employing the measure, especially now that climate change has become a life-threatening global issue that needs solutions as soon as possible. Also, not only can the invention be an alternative to minimizing harmful emissions but also likened with a seal with which governments worldwide could use to seal the menacing effects of global warming (Bullis, 2009). There exist multiple cheap proposals that are incredibly elaborate such as the sulfate injection. Bullis’s (2010) article also mentions significant attempts by renowned scientists to develop geoengineering schemes in the United States and Europe.
