The general traits the images share include the subject. This refers to the subject matter surrounding story or the scene presented. These include the period and the place, the individuals involved, the surroundings and its features. This helps the audience to understand the meaning of the works. Another important feature of the images is the iconography which refers to the content or subject of the artistic works. It also involves the use of symbols, pictures, and signs that represent the picture or emanating ideas. The next feature of the images is the material and technique ( Kleiner, 2016). To develop effecting art, the artists figure materials using pigment, clay, marble, and gold among others. In all the images, the artist selected the best materials that met their needs during their times. The techniques refer to the processes that artist use in creating their works such as painting brush. The next trait is the line. This is the key aspect that defines all the artworks. The line is what develops an art on a plane surface. The next element is color. Light shows all the colors used by the artist. The different images have diverse colors.

One of the images that were most interesting and fascinating was Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper. The reason is that it is one of the most renowned Christian art. The artworks show twelve people in the process of querying or depicting shock and disbelief. Additionally, the image is to a considerable extent live and humane and in disparity to the peaceful and unrestrained pose of Jesus ( Kleiner, 2016). While looking at the images, one of the questions that emerge in my mind is what was the major focus or interest of the artist.

Giotto's Betrayal of Christ (1305) represents a scenario whereby Judas deceived Jesus by pointing out who Jesus was in the crowd in ostensibly subtle manner, through a kiss. Judas is in yellow attire, a color often connected to cowardice. Towards the left is Peter wearing blue and red robes, aggressively reacting to Malthus. On the left side are defense and an incoming offense from the left. In the center of the painting is the kiss between Jesus and Judas brought out by lines developed by torches above their heads drapery and lines of cloths dropping toward their faces. The painting is more a three dimension space. By ensuring that people occupy half of the frame is a symbol that there is life outside the boundary. Another important feature of this painting is bulkiness. The painting brings some sense of reality.

On the other hand, Masaccio's Resurrection of the Son of Theophilus (1427) shows the first miracle performed by Peter after being released from prison. In the painting, Peter is standing in front of the boy and also hanging towards the right side. This miracle highly overwhelmed Antioch's citizens that they all transformed into Christianity and constructed a gigantic church in town and in the center they gave Saint Peter a huge seat to enable him to sit across all sermon. This is also shown in the painting. The figures represent key Florentines of the day.

Renaissance can be traced back to Italy in early 14 th centuries a period known as “proto-Renaissance.” During this time, the Italian scholars and artists were inspired and focused on ideas and accomplishment of the classical Roman culture. Renowned artist such as Petrarch (1304-1374) and Giovanni Boccaccio (1313-1375) refocused on the ancient Greece and Rome at aimed at restoring languages, norms and logical traditions of these cultures after remaining dormant following fall of Roman Empire ( Kleiner, 2016). The fall proto-Renaissance was steered by plague and war. Early Renaissance seen in 1401 was marked by Lorenzo Ghiberti (1378-1455) after winning a key competition meant to design bronze doors for the cathedral defeating modern artists like Filippo (1377-1446), who later was recognized as the master of early Renaissance sculpture ( Kleiner, 2016). Numerous works of Renaissance art represented religious images including key subjects such as Virgin Mary. The paintings were mostly devotional objects and used in rituals. 15 th and 16 th Century marked the expansion and decline of Renaissance. In the 1500s, the Mannerist style, with its focus on artificiality emerged and replaced the High Renaissance art and became the major style in Europe.

The Birth of Venus is one of the renowned and most acknowledge works of art done by Sandro Botticelli (1482-1485). Unlike the Renaissance art that was highly religious, the Birth of Venus was the first works that presented a nude woman since the classical era ("15thc Italy Mantegna", 2018). Additionally, the painting was done using tempera. It is a different mythological painting from the Renaissance in Florence and a non-religious nude. It was inaugurated by the Medici family. She surfaces from the sea standing on the seashell. On the shore is the God of the season awaiting to receive Venus with a cloth a sign of love ( ("15thc Italy Mantegna", 2018). To a considerable extent, these images signify Botticelli’s paganism.

Botticelli removed Venus from ordinary time and place by focusing much attention on her hair and hairstyle, a representation of women’s hair fashion during this period ("15thc Italy Mantegna", 2018). She also gave her a beautiful face free from blemishes distinguished her face from other parts of the body using a lighter color. Additionally, the nudity of Venus makes it unique since it was a rare thing during the middle ages. He also uses contours of the Venus body. This ensured that her body is easily visible as compared to the background and bringing out her milky skin ("15thc Italy Mantegna", 2018). The outcome of this is that Venus to a considerable extent appears as her flesh comprising of marble.
