My favorite theatre period was the ancient Greek theatre period that started during the 6th century. The reason why I love and feel intrigued by the Greek theatre is that most of its performers were males, and they would play the female roles. As well, I liked the way the group chorus was sung by members who did not take part in the action. The members acted as the conscience of the characters. The Greeks used theatre as a form of worship, and with time, they transited it from a ritual to a kind of drama (Wilson, 2007). Most of the plays in the Greek period were either tragedies or comedies. The tragedies focused on the myths and legends of ancient Greek. The comics that were presented during the ancient Greek theatre mirrored the political situations and lives of people.

The structures of most of the comedies that were played during the Greek theatre period were conventional since a large group of people will join the chorus amidst the action (Arnott, 2003). Also, the actors wore masks, a technique that brought them close to the audience. One of the aspects I liked about the masks is that they were structured based on the scenarios. For instance, the comic masks were used when the actors were leering while the tragic masks were used in expressing painful and mourning situations. Besides, the mask’s shape was structured in such a way that it increased the actor’s voice. The grandly gesturing and efforts made by the actors to communicate to the audience were also intriguing since every information was articulately communicated. I also loved the way the actors aired the tragic plays. The actors avoided violence on stage; the death of any of the characters was not shown on stage.
