Abuse can be defined as mistreatment of an individual by another. Human beings know how they should be treated and when they are abused, they are affected emotionally and psychologically. Abuse causes trauma to an individual and this could lead occurrence of psychological and medical illnesses. For example, a teenager or a child who has experienced sexual abuse may suffer depression, low self-esteem, or even anxiety attacks.
Since abuse causes shock and trauma, the psychological or physical health problems that result occur as a victim tries to address the trauma they have undergone. In the future, I will deal with clients who have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This is because there are extreme abuse scenarios that a victim is threatened with death or faces the reality of death. In other cases, the abuse may not be severe but it is scary to an extent of having a negative lasting effect on a victim’s mind.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
While dealing with abuse, I will also encounter clients who are addicts and drug abusers. This is because after they have experienced abuse they may look for ways to cope with the trauma. Taking alcohol and using drugs can be a coping mechanism. Another coping mechanism is engaging in irresponsible behavior. I know that in the future some of the clients who have experienced abuse may be uncontrollable. Some may venture into activities such as stealing and violence since they have a lot of anger for the abuse they may have experienced.
To help my clients who have experienced abuse, I will use trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. This is the form of therapy that would help manage the stress, emotional pain, and memories of abuse. In cases where the abuse is continuing, I would involve the authorities to ensure that my client is safe from any form of abuse.
