Religion can be defined as a set of dogmas, procedures, rules, and protocols that human create. Discovering an undiscovered community would necessitate the raising of several questions in an aim to uncover the community’s set up. Among the important things that a scholar would require knowing is the community’s systems of beliefs and their possible belief in the existence of a supernatural power that influences their daily lives. Additionally, it would be critical to know the rules and ceremonies used for worship of the supernatural power if the community believes in the existence of one.

Since the community in the undiscovered valley has not been exposed to any external influences, it would be interesting to know whether they have a religion similar to other communities. Essentially, it would not be surprising to discover that the community has a crude form of religion since such a community’s practices and cultures are unadulterated.

Posing the above inquiries to the community would present several approaches to religion that the academic world holds towards religion. One approach is criticizing religion. Through criticizing religion, scholars especially those influenced by the Foucauldian thought, categorize religion as an implication of western imperialism and as such not expecting an undiscovered community to have an existing religious system.

Upholding religion is another approach towards religion. The upholding approach disputes the criticizing approach by stating that it cannot be helpful or correct to associate religion with western imperialism. By upholding religion, scholars support the protection of religious freedoms as well as the freedom of conscience and the general good.

Approaching religion in a disaggregating manner is another exhibition of the inquiries made. The disaggregating approach requires that concerns of the critical religion need to be attended as well as being sensitive towards religious experiences and beliefs.
