Erikson’s stage of psychosocial development of generativity versus stagnation motivates the decisions made by adults during middle adulthood. In this stage, which happens in between 40 -65 years, an individual works to do things that would make a mark on the world. It is the case where an individual wants to create and nurture things that will go beyond his/her life. In this stage, the decision making process would be directed towards investing on others as opposed to investing on self (Scheck, 2014). The major decisions made are likely to be long-term as opposed to decisions that have rewards here and now. At this stage, decisions are likely to be driven towards building lasting influence through changing the world and making it better.

Roles like kinkeeper or parental caretaker affect adults' self-care (e.g., physical, social, and psychological) largely. Humans are social learners and the role that parents play such as protecting children from risks, harm, dirt and other dangers get to build a model for them on how they should live on their own. Children provided with good care have a high likelihood of protecting themselves against danger. The ones raised with values on the need to eat a balanced diet and take good care of health are likely to replicate that as they grow. At the same time, children who have seen parents taking the responsibility of self-care are likely to learn to take on such behaviors as they grow up.

The proposed strategies for helping clients who are members of the sandwich generation protect them from physical and psychological problems because of increased responsibilities, which include learning on the power to delegate responsibilities. With good delegation of responsibilities at the family level, they would deal with increased responsibilities. Secondly, I would propose proper planning on the way to take care of their children and aged parents. Good planning will ensure that either the aged parents or the children in the nuclear family do not suffer. Thirdly, I would propose the need to look for help where possible through employing persons who may help in taking care of children and parents.
