It is possible to relate age with happiness, but at the same time, the relationship can be inverted depending on the circumstances within someone’s life at different stages. The most common and evident relationship between the two is that, as people grow old, they become happier. The logical reason behind this is people become content with who they are and what they in life as they grow old. In sociology, studies reveal that in the adolescent and young adult stage, the lives of people are filled with a crisis of finding identity and direction of life. Because of this, most people suffer from depression, and this deprives them happiness. As this group advance to adulthood, they can define their careers and relationships thus becoming contented and happy.

This is the typical phase that most people go through because it is believed that we are all beings in the process of making, and thus we first struggle to find our ground before we become comfortable in life. However, this is not the case with everyone. Specific groups of people often become depressed as they grow old and this is the category that had everything easy while growing up and were sheltered from problems and growing up by their parents. In doing so, they cannot solve problems on their own thus finding it hard to navigate through life and create a perfect haven in their adulthood. Therefore, I believe happiness and age are closely related as one determines the other systematically. My take on the relationship between age and happiness is that people who have gone through hardship in their youthful years become happier as they grow old and those who have not endured hardship adolescent become less happy as they advance into adulthood.
