Is the first movement of the Fantasy in sonata form?

The first movement of the fantasy by Schumann is in sonata form. One comes up with the decision since, Schumann composed the first movement of the fantasy between 1833 and 1835 and this was the sonata number (Davis, 2017) . Linda explains that Schumann presented different sonata while utilizing various movements such as the F-sharp minor, A major, D major and an F-sharp minor. The first movement was an F- sharp minor. Schumann composed this romantic sonata in dedication to his lover Clara Wiek who was also a renowned pianist . (Davis, 2017) .

What is interesting about Schumann’s treatment of the main key of C Major?

Schumann’s treatment of the C major key is similar to the annotation on the C minor key which is a parallel presentation. Schumann treated the major C key but presenting it with one flat and no sharps (Davis, 2017) . This is a unique presentation as the common C major key is also a relative to the A minor which has no sharps and also has no flats. A combination of A minor and C major is interesting and makes the music presentable and easy to flow. Schumann’s Toccata in C major was described by the succeeding pianists as one of the most complicated pieces of sonata produced in history. Although it was complicated, the pianist manages to play the keys with a continues flow creating interesting musical pitch that is in line with the tempo.
