Case #1

With the given signs, the best diagnosis the patient should go through is Arterial Blood Gas. Since he is old, the diagnosis will help in analyzing the gas exchange within the lungs. Also, the medical practitioner will look into the integrity of the “ventilator control system” to help establish the level of acid in the blood. Furthermore, the practitioner will monitor the respiratory therapy of the patient, considering he is old and gas a rattle at the base of his lungs. In effect, the normal PCO2 is 35 to 45, and since the patient has 64, it means that the CO2 is increasing due to respiratory failure or hypoventilation ( Moss et al., 2016 ). In this case, due to the rattles, the increase of CO2 is uncontrollable. Also, since the pH is above 7.4, the patient has alkalemia.

Case #2

The possible reason why the patient suffered from the anoxic event is due to lack of enough oxygen in the body. Basing the cause on a cellular injury, the patient suffered from a cardiac arrest since the level of oxygen was low and in return, other factors such as an increase of carbon monoxide led to anoxic event. In the United stated of America, at least 80% of the aging population suffers from cardiac arrest because they inhale various toxic which reduces the level of oxygen in their body, since their body cannot fight toxic faster; they end up suffering from anoxic events which may be the cause of cardiac arrest or even hypoxic-anoxic injury.
