Individual’s character is usually known to influence their decision. Laertes, Oedipus, Nora, Richard and Prufrock, all displayed how their decisions were based on their characters. From Laertes character, he was able to warn his sister Ophelia, about the weird behavior of Hamlet. However, Laertes profoundly contributed to the death of his family members through his character. His hatred towards Hamlet made him join forces with Claudius to destroy him (Roberts and Zweig 1080). In this case, Laertes character displays his overall feelings and attitude of how he views his life. In the end, while he was dying he ended up confessing to Hamlet about the evil plans of Claudius.

In contrast, Oedipus philosophical debate is based on how he made decisions based on his free will. His character profoundly contributed to most of his decisions, which resulted in his tragic downfall. Due to his overweening and pride, Oedipus was able to make decisions that made him receive praises and honor (Roberts and Zweig 1039). Every event that occurs in peoples’ lives is always based on fate since one cannot predict the future. However, Oedipus was so focused on making decisions that predict the future which resulted in an inevitable disaster. In this case, his character comprised of pride, which ended up influencing most of his decisions because he was a king and had to act like one since he was imposing himself on people.

In ‘ A Doll House, ’ Nora is a strong woman who through her decisions was able to save the finances of her husband. Her rebellious character was able to secure a good future for his husband which resulted in him being a bank manager. In other words, Nora’s decision enabled her to get what she wants (Roberts and Zweig 1488). From her character, her bravery and boldness made it possible for her to borrow some funds from Krogstad. However, her secret ended up being disclosed which paved the way for her to escape from her oppressed marriage. Additionally, Nora realized how sad she was in her marriage because she used always to make decisions that ended up favoring his husband.

In the poem, ‘ Richard Cory ,’ Richard is a good-looking person who is always well groomed and appealing to the town people. People viewed him as a royal person since he was considered to be wealthy. However, people were amazed at how he did not act as superior compared to other individuals because he lacked something important in his life. Based on Richard’s character, he was kind-hearted since he associated with every person. He had always tried to make contact with other people by saying ‘good morning’ to them (Roberts and Zweig 590). The truth of the matter is that Richard lacked the true meaning of happiness which made him shoot himself. In this case, the townspeople failed to acknowledge Richard since they viewed him as a wealthy man who was proud. No one knew his sufferings since he had no friend to share thoughts and ideas, which resulted in him opting to end his life. His decisions were based on his character on how he used to be a loner because he had no one to talk to as a friend.

Prufrock decisions are also based on his character traits. From the play, Prufrock does not consider himself as an old man and ends up behaving like a young man by eating peaches and rolling up his trousers. He is aware that he is getting old, but he does not want to admit the fact. Prufrock feels that he is lonely, aging and being insecure since he is alienated from the society by other people (Roberts and Zweig 900). He tries very hard to fit in the society since it will help him forget that he is getting old. His character ends up contributing to most of his decisions, which made him feel that he was not himself as he was coping people.
