In the case where these codes are not followed, for instance, provision or assisting in providing misleading, misrepresented, incorrect, or fallacious information, the radiology professional faces several repercussions. Firstly, suspension of the person’s practising certification and registration for a certain period can be one of the implications. Secondly, an individual may face private or public reprimand. Though both allow for continued registration as well as certification, a private reprimand occurs between the person and the governing board while a public reprimand is made known to the public. Lastly, another implication can be revocation, which is the permanent removal of a person’s registration and certification thus seizing from practising.
I was not aware of the ethical communication practices and sharing of information covered by the codes of ethics concerning educating the patient’s family as well as consultation with other professions outside the radiology field. Initially, my take was that being a radiology assistant involved very minimal contact with other persons outside the radiology sphere. As such, these codes are eye-openers.
