Coke and Pepsi have both developed themselves as leading beverage companies, competing for customers in the Cola flavored industry. Both companies produce Cola flavored drinks and most consumers can barely tell them apart from their tastes alone. However, the companies have been able to establish loyal customer bases. Coke has used red as their main color in packing and also branding while Pepsi products are identified by their blue. The products also have different logos. Coke prices are also slightly higher and the product enjoys a stronger sales record.
Another major difference, except for their appearance, is their taste and ingredients. Pepsi has a sweeter taste and has citrus flavor, which is missing from Coke’s ingredients ( Moss, 2019 ). Pepsi has more sugar while Coke is more gaseous. Pepsi thus has more calories although Coke also has more sodium than Pepsi ( Moss, 2019 ). Other differences would be in the names of the product variations (Max for Pepsi and Diet for Coke).

Coca-Cola was created by John Pemberton and was named by his bookkeeper who penned the name following the script that has been the Coca-Cola trademark. Initially, Coke established itself due to its remedial properties, including presence of cocaine, though this was later removed from the formula ( The Coca-Cola Company, 2019 ). The company rose under good advertising strategies and plants were established extensively throughout the country, providing product for all the US states as well as Canada. Coke went on to become the first company that sold packed beverages in China. The company introduced the low calorie version of the product, called Coke Zero, and even changed its flavor, which was reverted after dissatisfaction was expressed.
Pepsi-Cola was originated by Caleb Bradham, a pharmacist, in 1898 to try to realize the recent success of Coca-Cola. The drink had a flavor upgrade after the World War 1 when the company also offered 12 ounce bottles for 5cents ( PepsiCo, Inc, 2019 ). The name Pepsi-Cola Company was established after the company merged into Loft Inc., a candy manufacturing company. When a previous Coke vice president was hired as the CEO of Pepsi, the company set out on marketing and sales campaigns that enabled it to become the main competitor of Coke that it is today.
