It is a severe medical condition that negatively affects the behavior of adults, how they feel, and imagines. According to the World Health Organization 2017, women are more likely to experience depression than men. depression if not treated in time can cause suicidal thoughts. It changes the general mood of the person by making them sad and loses interest in activities that they were previously interested in, such as work and family. They prefer to be alone in most instances, and when in the presence of other people, they are usually withdrawn (World Health Organization, 2017). They have a change in appetite, which affects their weight. They can lose because of having little or no food at all or gain due to excessive consumption.

Several factors lead to depression. The personality of an individual can lead to this condition. People who suffer from low self-esteem, for instance, are more likely to experience such occurrences. They do not believe in themselves and can be affected by what the people around them say. They are generally pessimistic about everything around them and do not see anything worth living for, making them vulnerable to depression (Saleh et al., 2017). Environmental factors can cause one to sink in depression. When a person is continuously exposed to violence, neglect that leads to loneliness, poverty, or abuse, it can make them undergo stress, which will eventually result in depression.

Depression occurs after a long series of events and symptoms. It can be easily prevented before reaching the peak stage (Kessler, 2018). Immediately the person realizes that they have the above symptoms, seeking medical advice should be a priority. It could be from a psychologist or from a routine doctor to get proper diagnosis and treatment before it becomes full-blown (Kessler, 2018). Vulnerable people should avoid spending time alone because it renders them in deep thoughts, they should find a company to engage with, and most of all, open up to their close friends or relations. Speaking out about how they feel will help ease the tension and make them more relaxed. There is help for this condition, and they should not suffer alone.
