For teachers to implement a new curriculum or an existing one, it is important to prepare learning materials such as textbooks. In the interview involving two teachers, it has confirmed that textbooks are the only classroom resources that have influenced teacher’s pedagogical practices. Thus, this interview aimed to explore the criteria used for the selection of textbooks. The information collected from the district teacher claimed that the process involved selecting textbooks according to the nature and the mode of the textbook. They based the importance of the textbook according to its content and the content it presents. Equally, as the site teachers also used another criterion, their experience depended on the tenor of the book. The relationship that the books convey when it comes to teacher support and the influence it offers to students.
The school management, teachers, parents and pupils are the persons involved in the selection process. Teachers and students are involved since they know what is best for their knowledge and guidance in creating teaching strategies. Whereas, students look up to the context of the book that appropriately gives the information. The two teachers applied the key collaborative attributes to steer up the process. First on the side of the district teacher, setting clear goals was part of ensuring teaching objectives are met. Management on the other side was the sites responsible aspect of ensuring accountability and unity as the process was on course.
