Formative evaluation refers to a technique of judging the worth or validity of a program while the program is active, and all the methodologies of executing a program are in progress. An example of formative evaluation is applied where a tutor draws a concept map in a classroom setting in a bid to represent students' understanding of the topic of discussion (Frankel et al., 2014). On the other hand, summative evaluation refers to the assessment of the capability of participants where the attention is given to the outcome of a program. An example of summative evaluation includes an assessment of students' performance in a mid-term exam.
