The existence of God has been a matter of debate since the introduction of religion. In both modern and traditional cultures, the question about the Gods existence has been discussed by philosophers and scientists from different ages. According to Christianity, God does exist (Gale, 2016, p. 57). Although Christians cannot scientifically prove God's existence, they argue that the Bible, which was written by prophets inspired by God, proves the existence of God. The Bible declares the existence of God. Verses and scriptures in the Bible such as Genesis 1:1, the first verse in the Bible, introduces God to the reader as the supreme being who created all things (Gale, 2016, p. 58). The opening chapters of the Bible depict an image or a reality of an existing supreme being that is God.
Additionally, according to Christians, the existence of God is manifested through prophecies from the Bible. Christians claim that biblical prophecies stated in the Bible that have been fulfilled prove the existence of God (Carson, 2010, p. 82). For example, Christians cite verses such as Daniel 2 which predicted the downfall of four empires including the Roman empire, and as it was predicted in verse, the mentioned empires fell and collapsed. Another more popular example used by Christians to prove Gods existence is the prophecy of the birth of Jesus Christ that was stated in the Bible in various books such as Isaiah, Micah, and Luke. The mentioned books of the Bible foretold the coming of Jesus Christ centuries before he was conceived (Carson, 2010, p. 85). Christians believe that readings in the Bible and the apparent fulfillment of prophecies stated in it centuries ago, prove that God exists.

On the contrary, Atheists strongly condemn the idea of an existing God. According to Atheists, it is illogical to believe that God exists without empirical proof (Dawkins, 2008, p. 66). Atheists claim that there is no supreme being that created the universe citing scientific theories of creation as to how planets were formed. Atheists further argue that if there were an omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent God, there would be suffering and despair on earth as God would protect his beings from such. Atheists further claim that if God’s plans for us, as stated in the Bible in Jeremiah 29:11, were of prosperity and good intentions, people wouldn’t be dying because of diseases and hunger. Additionally, Atheists argue that scientific theories such as the theory of evolution which doesn’t mention God proves that humans rather than being created by God, evolved (Stenger, 2010, p. 78). To sum up, Atheists disapprove the existence of God due to the lack of empirical proof.
